Being an Autism Support Staff has its Advantages-You will be working in one of our specialty treatment programs, Devereux's Short Term Autism Intensive Residential Services Program (STAIRS). STAIRS is located in West Chester, PA and is a unique short-term psychosocial rehabilitation unit for children who have an autism spectrum disorder with particularly challenging behaviors and have not responded to traditional mental health services due to cognitive limitations or medical complexities. This position will provide you excellent clinical training in the areas of Functional Behavior Assessment, implementation of ABA, working closely with Behavioral Analyst, SPED Teachers and Clinical Psychologist. A plus for those currently seeking supervision hours for BCBA certification!

Being an Autistic Support means assisting individuals by:

  • Assisting the clients in your care with their individualized plans for daily life.
  • Ensuring individuals are safe, healthy, and living in a clean environment.
  • Participating in the planning, implementation, and documentation of programs designed to meet the social, emotional, physical, and personal needs of the client.

High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor's degree preferred in relevant field.

One (1) year of human service experience working with children, adolescents, and adults required.

The IDEAL candidate will... Be empathetic, a team player, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, energetic, creative, understand the theories of behavior management and positive reinforcement, and represent yourself as a positive role model. Additionally, you must be able to complete required new hire orientation class, have a strong passion for working with and helping children and adolescents with special needs and possess a valid license.

Physical Requirements: Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing. Some lifting and/or managing resistance required related to applying physical intervention techniques upwards of 75-100 lbs. or more. Some repetitive wrist/hand movements, normal hearing and vision. Occasional use of computers and office equipment. Occasional driving of Devereux vehicles for business purposes. Ability to meet 100% mastery of Safe and Positive Approaches.

Work Environment: Regularly works inside areas that are adequately lighted and ventilated. Some fluctuations in temperature. Use of Protective equipment such as latex gloves, facial mask protective eyewear, and gown. Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Some degree of physical involvement in exercise of Safe and Positive Approaches.
