Accessibility Manager will be responsible for ensuring online programs, services and activities conform to the designated requirements, which provide for equal access to online content and programs, regardless of user ability.  Manager will be responsible for the establishment, delivery and ongoing oversight of content accessibility for the UHC Digital program. Manager will provide support for meeting digital accessibility requirements. Manager will play an active role internally and externally to ensure UnitedHealthcare is a leader in the Accessibility world.  This role will also support the Business Strategy, Priorities and Product leadership in the ongoing strategy for UHC Digital.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for adherence to company digital accessibility processes and policies
  • Partner with teams to develop, communicate and maintain team processes related to digital accessibility, including plans for new and existing online content and training
  • Supporting the development of a central resource for sharing information on the digital accessibility initiative
  • Collaborating with internal team members and Subject Matter Experts to create required digital accessibility documentation, reporting and deliverables
  • Communicate with third parties and within the accessibility industry about accessibility at UHC
  • Manage key tracks of work (including other individuals) in accordance with established budget, work plans and quality standards
  • Partner with Digital Delivery teams on the creation of requirements and user stories
  • Participate in Agile Scrum process to ensure business vision is being accurately implemented and meet market expectations. Ensure digital solutions are delivered on time and on budget, including identifying and resolving risks and issues. Subscribe to Optum Product Methodology and business processes, providing input to further advance the discipline and evangelize across the team
  • Champion Accessibility across the organization to educate the importance and have it become part of our DNA
  • Ability to develop tools/resources to help provide implementation directions and requirements for UX Design and Front End Development teams
  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively both with diverse teams and independently

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or advanced degree from an accredited college or university
  • 5+ years’ experience in digital operations, web development, project management, business analysis or similar management role
  • 4+ years leading accessibility at a Fortune 500
  • 5+ years working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative development environment with experience in large, complex software or web applications
  • A full understanding of Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines and specifications
  • Fluent in WCAG 2.0 guidelines and know WAI-ARIA
  • Experience improving and remediating accessibility using digital technology
  • Experience leading accessibility evaluations and usability testing for accessibility
  • Experience with assistive technologies and accessibility-related software such as JAWS®, NVDA, VoiceOver, Window-Eyes, ZoomText, MAGic®, Dragon® NaturallySpeaking or other speech recognition software
  • Be an expert in conducting comprehensive accessibility testing against the WCAG 2.0 (AA) Success Criteria using several methodologies
  • Experience with Agile development practices
  • Knowledge regarding how to format PDFs to be accessible

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Healthcare industry experience
  • Experience delivering digital experiences that meet user needs based on usability research, UX design and information architecture principles, and product management methodologies
  • Experience in other interactive and digital industries such as retail and financial services
  • Able to build consensus and enthusiasm among stakeholders
