Position Summary

The Middleware Administrator will provide technical, analytical, and administrative support to Microsoft Biztalk, IBM Websphere Integration Bus, and Web Technologies (Microsoft IIS, Apache Tomcat), and other middleware technology to ensure internal and external customer requirements are met. The Middleware Administrator will implement software, investigate and resolve operational and performance problems, and support all functions pertaining to middleware applications.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure the effective daily operation of the middleware environments for production, test and development applications. Respond to and resolve help center tickets and developer requests. Research and resolve performance and functional issues pertaining to middleware applications. Monitorsthe application systems for issues with disk space, CPU usage, memory or other issues that may impact the end-users or applilcations.
  • Install, upgrade, migrate and maintain middleware software, applications, and websites in development, test, and production environments. Perform routine maintenance, configuration and administration and take corrective actions to ensure applications and web services are available, data is accurate, and configurations comply with defined standards.
  • Implement standard web services using modern web services platforms. Plan, coordinate, and implement middleware infrastructure using Apache Tomcat, Microsoft IIS, Red Hat JBoss, NGINX, and .NET components.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams, application development teams, testing and release teams to utilize and monitor system resources to implement new middleware environments.
  • Provide on call, 24x7 support for production middleware systems on a rotating basis. Implement corrective procedures to resolve production problems and minimize unplanned system outages.
  • Report to project and IS managers time estimates and progress for assigned tasks.
  • Design, Implement and test high availability and disaster recovery strategies pertaining to middleware applications
  • Maintain and test middleware backup and recovery procedures and scripts to insure system recoverability. Participate in periodic disaster recovery testing.
  • Maintain system documentation and architecture diagrams according to established standards.
  • Remain abreast of industry technical trends and new development trends to maintain current skills and remain current with industry standards.
  • Complete management reports, weekly time sheets, and status reports completely, accurately, and on time.

Education and Training Required

  • Bachelors Degree Computer Science, Information Science or related field

Experience Required

  • 3 to 5 years
  • 3+ years experience demonstrating knowledge and support Web Services, Production Scheduling, and Message Queuing Infrastructure in a large scale multi-application environment.
  • 3+ years of functional or development experience with internet or intranet web servers, application servers and/or messaging servers such as Microsoft IIS or Apache/Tomcat.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal , troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills
  • Experience in Back-up/recovery methodology, clustering and high availability strategies
  • Experience in identifying and troubleshooting system outages, installation issues, and application code

Experience Desired

  • Experience in Layer7 API Gateway
  • Experience in Web Application Content Management Solutions such as SiteCore CMS.
  • Knowledge of networking, web sites, and internet technology
  • Knowledge of application monitoring and development tools such as Splunk or Dynatrace
