Agile Product Owner – Elkridge, MD

The Agile Product Owner represents the voice of the business that defines user stories and prioritizes team backlog while maintaining the technical integrity of the Features or Components that the team is responsible to deliver. This is a cross-functional liaison role that reports into the Product Management office and coordinates work across several different work streams (IT and stakeholders) to fulfill the Business ask. This person acts as a Business Subject Matter Expert to the functional IT / Agile team while guiding Business Owners through user story prioritization, establishing acceptance criteria (Minimum Viable Product), and identifying gaps in the Standard Operating Environment (Business Process Improvements). Primary Responsibilities:
  • Share and decompose features into user stories (non-technical)
  • Define and document acceptance criteria for each user story clearly to conform with Business Quality Assessment (BQA) standard
  • Deliver team backlog, including milestones, to the agile team
  • Take responsibility for the development of ongoing enhancements, create and prioritize user stores with the agile teams
  • Identify, define, analyze, prioritize and refine the requirements, and will communicate those milestones and visions to the development team
  • Represent the business with the ability to prioritize tradeoffs, clarify requirements, and work to drive user stories to acceptance throughout the Agile software development lifecycle
  • Work directly with our various internal and external stakeholders, including senior staff and department managers, as well as with focused development teams to ensure successful translation of those requirements into high-quality product deliverables
  • Ongoing backlog grooming to get the user stories to a ‘Ready’ state for development teams
  • Participating in Sprint planning, review, and retrospective meetings and provide feedback to the teams
  • Answer questions identified during sprint planning sessions and daily scrum
  • Formally accepts the user stories once all acceptance criteria are met and demonstrated
  • Display a practical understanding of agile principles and practices
  • Develop a deep understanding of the customer and product needs
  • Act as a recognized voice of the customer to the team, on behalf of the business
  • Record business requirements in the product/team backlog
  • Ensure traceability between requirements, features, and user stories
  • Review test cases against user stories’ acceptance criteria
  • Periodically re-prioritizes the team backlog based on customer feedback, market changes, and business priority (as communicated by the Product Manager)
  • Actively participates in release planning sessions
  • Own the continual acceptance criteria for business value
  • Lead the system demo with the team
  • Participate in the solution PI demo
  • Ensure that all goals and milestones have been met
  • Verify value was provided to the business

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or 8+ years of additional relevant experience
  • 5+ years of experience with Project Management and/or Business Analysis
  • Experience driving teams and management to decisions and obtaining difficult information and answers
  • Experience working with cross functional teams
  • Experience working with various teams simultaneously
  • Experience systematically analyzing problems, drawing relevant conclusions, and devising appropriate courses of action
  • Experience in working with Agile / Scrum work environment as a Product Owner: writing user stories, and following the development process through user story acceptance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Healthcare insurance industry
  • Experience working with EMR systems
  • Knowledge of SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework)
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)
