Assistant Buyer B3 Concept

General Overview:

The Assistant Buyer will be responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the assortment and flow plan for the merchandising a special concept within the Bed Bath & Beyond family of brands. The assistant will be responsible for, in partnership with the buyer, new processes, strategies and best practices to drive the merchandising and financial goals of the merchandising concept. The assistant will operate as a back up to the buyer for all communication on the project when the buyer is out of the office.

 Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain all flow calendars with key milestones for each specific concept location
  • Create and maintain all category sku and visual line lists for each specific concept location. Communicate line list updates to IM and cross concept partners
  • Responsible for sku set up, and follow up on set status with cross concept partners. Confirm any ticketing and/or packaging needs.
  • Create and maintain reporting as needed to analyze sales and provide actionable comments to buyer
  • Sample management -- tracking, unpacking and organization on as needed basis
  • Maintain library of all product photos, presentation boards and product information needs
  • Responsible for providing timely and accurate information to cross functional and cross concept partners
  • Partner with buyer to identify and source new product assortments
  • Serves as the key point person in contact with vendors, internal and cross concept partners
  • Assist in any financial planning and analysis with IM partners
  • Participate and present in any product assortment meetings
  • Communicate with internal and external partners with prompt, clear and concise verbal and written communication
  • May have direct responsibility for merchandise category

Required Skills:

  • Ability to identify business opportunities and risks by analyzing sales performance and the competitive landscape, provide findings to buyer and cross functional partners
  • Demonstrate an understanding of product trends and historical data at the category level to provide recommendations on assortments in partnership with the buyer
  • Excellent listening, written and oral communication skills, ability to clearly communicate with an appropriate sense of urgency
  • Strong knowledge of retail math calculations
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, shifting tasks and timelines
  • Ability to work autonomously, strong decision making skills with good judgement
  • Ability to be the key contact person on the business when the buyer is out of the office

 Job Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree or commensurate work experience required
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as an Assistant Buyer with a multi-unit retailer
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience with Merchandising software systems; AS400, Brio
  • Solid systems skills; Microsoft; Excel, Word
