Position Summary

The Assistant Category Manager (ACM) works with internal and external partners to manage and grow the assigned tobacco category. The ACM assists the Sr. Category Manager in all aspects of category management, including but not limited to product assortment decisions, pricing and promotional strategies and managing vendor relationships.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in annual category planning and actively manage to achieve those defined goals including retail sales, retail and wholesale margins, income and known and unknown loss.
  • Participate in category reviews throughout the year of all categories and execute against resulting plans.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with vendors, and assist in the building and negotiating of promotional plans to align with category goals and corporate initiatives.
  • All Grocery ACM's work together to develop ad and display plans and effectively communicate those plans to retail teams.
  • Lead category team consisting of Merchandising Planner and Merchandising Assistant to execute sales plan, including ad and display planning.
  • Work with merchandising, retail operations, marketing, store planning and other internal stakeholders to implement and execute strategies.
  • Develop and execute corporate brands programs, alongside Sr. Category Manager and Corporate Brands team to achieve sales and penetration goals, including developing new items by identifying needs and opportunities based on category insights and industry trends
  • Participate in cross-functional teams created to develop process improvements utilizing the Giant Eagle Business Systems (GEBS) methodology
  • Respond to and/or delegate direction to resolve daily internal and external inquiries/issues.
  • Monitor industry trends and consumer behavior utilizing internal insights and analytics tools and resources as well as in regular visits to stores and competition.
  • Comply with all federal, state, local laws as they pertain to merchandising.
  • Special projects as assigned
  • Procurement responsibilities include: Forecasting promotional needs, producing purchase orders, using BICEPS program, making adjustments as needed, ensuring timely delivery of orders, reacting to late or unfulfilled orders, interacting with vendor customer service departments, trucking companies, assisting vendor sales reps with accurate forecasts for production, entering store distributions, interacting with warehouse Mgt and supporting others in the department when needed.
  • Achieve targeted inventory, turn and service level goals on products purchased for convenience warehouse and maintain records on service levels, buying turns, out of stocks and damages to evaluate supplier and Distribution Center efficiency and buyer performance.
  • Receive and respond to daily inquiries from internal and external customers, ensuring a timely and accurate response.
  • Responsible for budget development, expense control and/or revenue generation for a department. Amount of Budgetary Responsibility: \\$3mm - \\$5mm
