Associate Director, Informatics & IT Lead - Honolulu, HI

The Associate Director of Informatics/IT Lead will have oversight and development of analytics and reporting functions to meet state mandatory reporting requirements and internal requirements of health plan operations. Will effectively gather and analyze data for trending, tying data to business operations and developing recommendations for action and operational performance improvement.  Coordinate information system and technology development, issues, problem resolution, etc.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Staff supervision - management of Hawaii informatics team
  • Meet submission requirements for State of Hawaii and other regulatory reports
  • Support Team Hawaii on ad hoc reports for various health plan functions
  • Evaluate business processes to identify opportunities for operational excellence
  • Support the corporate planning process and ad hoc projects for executives, corporate requests and State of Hawaii requests
  • Collaborate with and leverage UnitedHealth Group regional/national information and data resources to meet local health plan information & reporting needs
  • Analyze business result/outcomes, customer needs, competitive threats, expansion opportunities and internal performance
  • Perform primary and secondary market research to generate strategic intelligence and insights
  • Deliver data-driven insights to support actionable strategic direction, corporate prioritization and communication
  • Build market and competitive intelligence reports, dashboards and tracking structures
  • Create an immediate impact in a fast-paced environment with multiple and changing demands
  • Foster collaborative relationship with highly matrixed teams in many local, regional and national functional areas
  • Other responsibilities as assigned to meet data, information, and analytical needs of the health plan



Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5+ years of experience with healthcare data or financial services
  • VBA, and ETL using SSIS services. (extracting, transforming and loading) data to/from Access, Excel, Flat file, Oracle, DB2 SQL Server
  • Intermediate to Advance skills with Access and Excel
  • Experience and familiarity with data mining & analysis, system integration, process improvement, deployment/maintenance of SQL technologies, and normalization/relational Database Management Systems. 
  • EDI file transfer experience
  • 5+ years in supervising effective teams and managing competing priorities
  • Position will office in our Honolulu office (relocation not available)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in SQL coding
  • Healthcare data Preferred
  • Working knowledge of healthcare EDI files (such as 834, 820, 837, etc.)
  • 5+ years of end to end business/operation process analysis
  • Expertise in health plan claims, membership, and clinical information systems 
  • Six sigma black belt preferred
  • Experience in managing technical (business reports) staff
  • Project Management skills (as demonstrated in successful project outcomes)
