SUMMARY: 

The AVP of Compliance-Engineering & Mechanical is a multi-disciplinary role, which provides a wide range of supporting activities for operations in North America.  This position serves as a liaison between field operations, corporate safety officers, and regulatory bodies.   The successful candidate will introduce and expand compliance programs that meet or exceed regulatory requirements and will possess knowledge, skills and abilities to drive compliance and continuous improvement efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and provide guidance on all regulatory compliance and training requirements of Signal Maintenance, Maintenance of Way, Bridge Worker and Mechanical activities for North American Operations
  • Monitor compliance of hearing conservation, signal system reporting, roadway worker protection, hours of service, driver log books, training standards, track safety standards, and bridge worker safety standards – including fall protection
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for operating rules, roadway worker protection, bridge worker safety and general safety rules
  • Update internal stakeholders on state and national regulatory addendums
  • Participate on AREMA Safety and ASLRRA Engineering Committees
  • Build and maintain working relationships with field-based employees, regional managers, regulatory bodies, rail organizations, and service providers
  • Establish regulatory auditing and reporting processes
  • Support and collaborate with engineering and mechanical to develop training standards
  • Support safety, environmental, and sustainability continuous improvement efforts
  • Implement 5S program for engineering and mechanical facilities, vehicles and equipment
  • Approximately 50% field travel throughout North America

Required Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of engineering and mechanical operations and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency with MS Office Suite

Required Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification preferred
  • At least ten years of railroad experience preferred
