Behavioral Care Advocate - Telecommute from Houston, Portland, So Cal or Albuquerque

As a Behavioral Health Care Advocate you will be responsible for case management and utilization review of behavioral health and substance abuse cases. You'll have a direct impact on the lives of our members as you recommend and manage the appropriate level of care throughout the entire treatment plan.

 


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Focus on initial inpatient admission for psychiatric and chemical dependency patients
  • Make patient assessments and determining appropriate levels of care
  • Obtain information from providers on outpatient requests for treatment
  • Determine if additional clinical treatment sessions are needed
  • Manage inpatient and outpatient mental health cases throughout the entire treatment plan
  • Administer benefits and review treatment plans
  • Coordinate benefits and transitions between various areas of care
  • Identify ways to add value to treatment plans and consulting with facility staff or outpatient care providers on those ideas
  • Receive and review clinical assessments and certify levels of care
  • Actively case manages chemical dependency and psychiatric cases by concurrently reviewing all levels of treatment from assessment through aftercare to resolution of treatment
  • Discuss treatment plans with providers and negotiate changes as per Level of Care Guidelines, and the consumer?s needs and preferences
  • Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, and in-service opportunities
  • Consult with MD supervisor prior to any non-certification of treatment for inpatient care or with licensed clinical supervisor for any non-certification of treatment for outpatient care. Consultations shall occur within one working day of the provider?s request for treatment certification
  • Document clinical data and results of reviews
  • Available for peer-to-peer consultation on a reconsideration within 1 working day of request
  • Enter certification for treatment in timely manner (within 24 hours for IP cases and within 5 business days for Lower Levels of Care)
  • Collaborates with Care Coordinators, Peer Support Specialists and Family Peer Specialists, providers, and community agencies and organizations to facilitate access to and transition between services
  • Collaborates with Care Coordinators, Peer Support Specialists and Family Peer Specialists, providers, and community agencies and organizations to identify consumers who may benefit from care coordination, and/or peer support

 This is a telecommuter position but you must reside within a commutable distance of one of these cities in which we have an office: Houston TX, Portland OR, San Diego CA, Los Angeles CA, or Albuquerque NM

 

 


 


 Required Qualifications:

  • Licensed Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or Marriage or Family Counseling, or Licensed Ph.D., or an RN with 3 or more years of experience in behavioral health
  • Minimum 3 years (post-licensure preferred) direct clinical experience with emphasis on acute psychiatric and chemical dependency; variable experience strongly preferred with inpatient and/or residential/day treatment experience
  • Must have an active, unrestricted and independent license in your state of residence and you must live within a commutable distance of one of the following cities where we have an office: Houston TX, Los Angeles, CA, San Diego, CA, Portland OR, or Albuquerque NM
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • PC proficiency
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Managed care and/or insurance or utilization review experience
  • Proficient Microsoft skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Inpatient experience
  • Dual diagnosis experience with mental health and substance abuse
  • Experience working in an environment that required coordination of benefits and utilization of multiple groups and resources for patients
