Records patient demographic and insurance information in the billing and PAI systems for multiple units. Works on multiple platforms to obtain benefit verification and authorization from insurers to facilitate prompt and appropriate payment for hospital services. Collects payments and educates patients about the Financial Assistance program.

 

The Business Operations Coordinator - New Hyde Park, NY in this function include those responsible for providing process and operational support to the functions within Business Operations Family. Positions in this function may also be responsible for quality reporting, analysis and audits, and for developing plans and programs to support continuous quality improvement using applicable tools

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes the PAI system to complete complex elective, urgent and / or preregistration worklists of accounts
  • Contacts insurers to verify patient insurance benefits, utilizes insurance websites and other means of electronic insurance verification (HDX) to obtain all information necessary for securing patient accounts (coordination of benefits, benefit coverage / limits, copay / deductible amounts, and authorization)
  • Obtains and accurately records patient demographic and insurance information in the hospital's registration system and in PAI to facilitate appropriate billing for multiple units.
  • Secures authorizations for admissions and procedures when necessary
  • Communicates professionally and courteously with patients and family members while obtaining or clarifying demographic information and / or insurance benefits and / or financial responsibility
  • Communicates the Hospitals collection policy and collects self-pay and copay obligations. Utilizes Skipjack to collect payments
  • Educates uninsured / underinsured patients about the financial assistance program.
  • Insures high quality information is recorded in systems at all times

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED or higher
  • 1+ years of customer service or call center experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word (create and edit documents), Excel (manipulate and enter data), and Outlook (manage email)
  • Must be able to work Monday – Friday 10am - 6pm EST

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft Access (data entry)
  • Experience with Adobe (document editing)
