Position Summary

Oversee the day to day forecasting, replenishment, inventory and in-stock requirements for assigned categories. Ensure the needs and requirements of the stores, RSC, customers and all other stakeholders are met in a timely and accurate manner. Develop an overall understanding of category management, negotiation strategies, product development, pricing and promotions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage all daily activities associated with forecasting and replenishing warehouse inventories for turn, promotional and seasonal activity
  • Negotiate with Suppliers to deliver the highest quality beef at the best possible cost to maintain sales and profits.
  • Procurement responsibilities include: Forecasting promotional needs, producing purchase orders, using BICEPS program, making adjustments as needed, ensuring timely delivery of orders, reacting to late or unfulfilled orders, interacting with vendor customer service departments, trucking companies, and the non-banner group, assisting vendor sales reps with accurate forecasts for production, entering store distributions, diverting, interacting with distribution management and supporting other buyers in the department when needed.
  • Contribute to achieving wholesale profitability by researching and resolving invoicing discrepancies to ensure accurate accounts payable records, ensuring the accuracy of data within the buying and pricing systems so billing processes remain error free and continuously striving to purchase product at the lowest possible cost.
  • Achieve targeted inventory, turn and service level goals on products purchased for Giant Eagle warehouses and maintain records on service levels, buying turns, out of stocks and damages to evaluate supplier and Distribution Center efficiency and buyer performance
  • Manage processing vendor cost changes, including deciding timing on implementation of any adjustment to wholesale list cost and retail price to maximize profitability.
  • Receive and respond to daily inquiries from internal and external customers, ensuring a timely and accurate response
  • Suggest and implement tactics to improve efficiency and practice GEBS for all facets of the managed businesses
  • As applicable, work with the tax department to ensure compliance with all state and federal tax laws
  • Support the Category Manager in the development of the weekly promotional plan and seasonal promotional programs; recommend strategies to Category Manager on pricing, promotions and assortment tactics to increase sales and profitability; assist Category Manager with communicating direction and strategy to the retail stores.
  • Collaborate with vendors to review new items, promotional and marketing opportunities and assortment tactics and pricing to optimize category performance and market share
  • ensure all contracts, forms and correspondence related to promotions, new items, cost changes, vendor funding etc. are kept in compliance with all Giant Eagle standards
  • Assist the Category Manager in the development of a world class "own brand" assortment
  • Interact with the GE Marketing, Quality Assurance, Advertising, Own Brands and Sales Systems and Support department
  • Provide clear direction, support and coaching to administrative staff to ensure they have the information and direction necessary to complete their tasks on time and free of defect
  • Analyze and monitor business performance utilizing data warehouse, business intelligence, Nielson and GEAC data.
  • Assist Category Manager with the development of category business plans and special projects
  • Participate on an on call weekend rotation to ensure proper procurement and the handling of any special circumstances.
  • Budget/Responsibility: Assist Category Manager in Annual Business Planning
