Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally. Our nine major business lines include Business Banking, Middle Market Banking, Government and Institutional Banking, Corporate Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Financial Institutions Group, Wells Fargo Commercial Capital, Wells Fargo Securities, and the Investment Portfolio. We also have groups in credit risk, group risk, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office that support our businesses.

Wells Fargo Credit Investment Portfolio (CIP) is responsible for the evaluation of credit-driven investment opportunities across a broad spectrum of asset classes and manages a portfolio of corporate, municipal, asset-backed, renewable energy securities and loans with a view toward long-term holds and a focus on maximizing risk-adjusted returns.

The Structured Products Team manages a portfolio that primarily invests in collateralized loan obligations (CLO), commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS), and consumer asset-backed securities (ABS - student loans, credit cards, etc.).

  • Responsible for assisting more senior Structured Credit Analysts and Portfolio Managers in the formulation of investment recommendations, while developing the modeling and research skills relevant to the investment decision-making process. Asset classes include CLOs, CMBS, ABS, interest-rate derivatives, credit derivatives, and other structured products.
  • Partner internally with, but not limited to, wholesale credit, market risk, technology, operations, controllers and various audit and examining groups to design and implement processes, systems and controls enabling continued scale of the portfolio over time.
  • Prepare and review annual or quarterly reports as appropriate for the business.

They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of investment research experience
Desired Qualifications

  • A Masters of Business Administration (MBA)
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Experience in asset-backed, structured finance, or structured debt transactions
  • Transaction or structuring experience with a major investment bank, reputable hedge fund, or specialty finance firm
  • Ability to understand, operationalize, and assist in the structuring of complex financing transactions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience with Bloomberg
  • Qualitative or quantitative structuring credit skills
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Effective organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of capital markets pricing, legal, accounting, and tax concepts. Qualitative or quantitative structuring credit skills
  • Experience designing and post-closing operational management of customized financing structures and other standard/non-standard structured credit products
Other Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in asset-backed finance, structured finance or leveraged finance
  • Ability to understand, operationalize, and assist in the structuring of complex financing transactions
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of capital markets pricing, legal, accounting, and tax concepts
  • Demonstrates a sense of personal accountability and urgency for achieving results
  • Knowledge of database programming and/or scripting (SQL, Python, R, VBA)
