The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for providing Consultative and Educational services to the company clients.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide consultative and educational services to the company clients
  • Provide internal education to departments regarding the practice of hospice
  • Provide external education to clients regarding symptom management
  • Review medications from various sources (fax, email, etc) for drug therapy appropriateness, duplication of therapy, and interactions, side effects and payment coverage based on client needs
  • Communicate with other members of the hospice interdisciplinary team in person or on the telephone when appropriate
  • Prepare written drug information using appropriate literature references
  • Prepare drug teaching tools
  • Provide follow up consultations with clients based on internal standards of care
  • Maintain compliance to all state, federal, TJC (JCAHO), CHAP and other regulatory agencies, standards, rules, and regulations
  • Participate in quality improvement, drug utilization evaluation and CQI activities.
  • Participate in teaching activities
  • Complete appropriate documentation responsibilities
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of current practice, medical literature, and pharmaceutical industry literature as they relate to hospice, palliative care and any other areas of practice engaged in by company
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of pharmacy and nursing law in the applicable state
  • Provide excellence in written and oral communication
  • Manage simultaneous priorities
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with clinical staff, pharmacy providers, community physicians and nurses and company staff
  • Any additional responsibilities as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Current, unrestricted R.N. license in the state of residence
  • 2+ years of RN Hospice experience providing direct clinical care

 

Preferred Qualifications:

B.S.N. degree Long - term care experience Clinical care experience in a palliative care environment Additional hospice or palliative care certification (i.e., CHPN) a plus Wound care experience and an active Wound Care certification (i.e. CWOCN, CWON, CWCN, WCC, or CWS)
