We are looking for a technologically talented individual to help DSW evolve its computing landscapes, enabling our business to realize the full advantage of retail opportunities as they arise.  The Cloud Infrastructure Architect requires a mix of hands-on technical development work, conceptual design, and leadership through influence.  Based on a cloud-first approach, you will be responsible for strategic technology enablement, architecting and supporting right-time solutions in collaboration with various technology teams at DSW.  Working with other Engineers, Architects, and Business Analysts throughout the Technology Adoption Lifecycle (TAL), you will contribute to a team that has been tasked to be agents of change at DSW, driving the next evolution of IT for our business and our customers.


As a Cloud Infrastructure Architect at DSW, you will be constantly presented with new challenges of sizable scope and variety that enable DSW to realize the capability and efficiency of public cloud infrastructure. You are a technologist with strong bias to action, excellent analytical skills, and talent for good engineering. This position reports to the Manager, IT Infrastructure Solutions and has no direct reports.



  • Collaborate closely with other DSW Solution Centers to understand workload requirements and guide them to the best leverage of infrastructure cloud services, optimizing for performance, cost and architectural flexibility
  • Work with the team to design large scale enterprise integration patterns between our cloud environments and our on-premises services
  • Define and evolve Infrastructure strategies and roadmaps that support business critical applications within a cloud environment
  • Research and present new technology trends, influencing peers and leadership toward adoption, driving accountability of the achievement of roadmap milestones
  • Define and maintain logical and technical views of Reference Architectures
  • Capture innovative ideas, consistently advancing the conceptual architecture, prototyping, and adoption process
  • Demonstrate a balanced, vendor agnostic approach to addressing complex infrastructure concepts and gain consensus of peers through use of blueprints and trade-off analyses
  • Perform POCs, draft RFP documentation, and review SOW’s to drive value add infrastructure solutions
  • Lead and contribute to cross-functional architecture and engineering design sessions to create highly scalable solutions delivering business value
  • Define reusable components, frameworks, common schemas, standards, and tools, influencing their usage across teams
  • Interact with project managers and scrum masters to understand requirements and user stories, then translate them into architectural infrastructure blueprints
  • Lead requirements gathering, analysis and solution development for infrastructure cloud-based solutions that scale and can be easily operationalized to realize the benefit of the cloud
  • Mentor and provide technical oversight and guidance to implementation teams while working in a coordinated manner to deliver and deploy the designed architecture
  • Mentor and guide internal and external technical resources
  • Review application designs to ensure alignment with the architecture and strategy
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for Cloud Infrastructure technologies and solutions
  • Be the primary technical resource which solution center teams rely on for Cloud Infrastructure portfolio expertise
  • Identify and communicate impacts to the architecture roadmap based on industry changes and technology innovation
  • Participation in industry groups to gain visibility to trends and influence future direction


Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience in information technology, 2 years of practical experience with cloud systems and services
  • You have a strong aptitude for learning new technologies and understanding how, when and where to best utilize them
  • You have subject matter expertise in a wide range of infrastructure related domains, with a track record of large production grade service deployment and IT operations
  • Ability to take technical and/or business requirements and translate them into detailed infrastructure solution designs
  • Possess an in-depth architectural understanding of cloud Infrastructure as a Service (Iaas) in various providers and are familiar with cloud native design patterns for Platform as a Service (PaaS)
  • In-depth architectural understanding of one major Public Cloud platform and are familiar with cloud native design patterns and DevOps principles (Infrastructure as Code)
  • Knowledge of current public cloud offerings from Azure, Google and AWS
  • Understanding of a broad range of technologies provided as services and managed services within cloud environments
  • Previous experience developing, implementing, and operating large-scale IaaS, highly available environments through public cloud providers
  • GCP and Azure experience preferred, Oracle and AWS are a plus
  • Knowledge of container solutions and their management (Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform)
  • Excellent communication, presentation and leadership skills
  • Experience in Retail highly preferred
