We are seeking a Data Analyst to own the construction, development and maintenance of the analytical datasets that support the UnitedHealthcare Global finance team.  This role will be instrumental in partnering with the business, finance and IT to identify, aggregate and analyze data to transform it into actionable business decision support reporting.  The role will have visibility to the drivers and business metrics of all of the UnitedHealthcare Global product lines and will be an important asset to the finance team and business leaders.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interface with business leaders and build relationships in support of reporting and analysis
  • Update, modify, and tie out the detailed financial datasets to support the metrics that drive business performance
  • Partner with IT and functional owners to identify necessary data needs and build a plan around aggregation of the data into the financial tools
  • Document the data sources and processes to maintain the datasets
  • Partner with Finance Leadership to define and develop enhanced analytics to answer business questions
  • Provide insight and support in development of best practices of data management and accuracy
  • Collaborating with finance team colleagues and peers to drive business solutions and identify opportunities for innovation
  • Working in a team environment on projects that aim to solve ambiguous business problems, support requirements gathering as well as design and development of the deliverables within the agreed SLAs
  • Gather and analyze business requirements
  • Develop technical specifications and implement solutions that fulfill business needs
  • Develop, enhance, integrate Data Warehouses/Data Marts and Business Intelligence Solutions
  • Test Data Warehouses/Data Marts
  • Deploy and Maintain Data Warehouses/Data Marts
  • Lead maintenance and development efforts around the Medical Loss Ratio Tools
  • Participate in various projects
  • Opportunity to bring an innovative voice to the team, especially regarding new tools and techniques that could benefit the team

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of Data Engineering, Data Mapping, and/or Data Management
  • 3+ years of Professional IT experience in a large enterprise environment
  • Intermediate skill in SQL (Data Aggregation, table joins, CASE, CAST, INSERTS, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Access (setting up a database, writing scripts, connecting to external datasets)
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel (macros, pivot tables, complex formulas, conditional formatting etc.)
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Advanced SQL skills (Queries/Data Selection, Complex Queries, Data Definition, Data Modification, and Programming Techniques)
  • Logical, detailed oriented thought process with the ability to breakdown complex problems into individual root causes
  • Financial and/or Accounting background
  • Experience working with financial data sets
  • Hyperion Essbase and PeopleSoft experience
  • Project management experience
  • Healthcare experience
