As a key member of the Payment Integrity Data Mining team, you will be part of UnitedHealth Group's mission of helping people live healthier lives. As a Business Manager, you will grow and develop as you conduct and manage outcomes and support short and long term strategic business activities and provide solutions, conduct research, and analysis of data and business processes. You will be challenged to analyze, review, trend and forecast data for operational and business planning.  As part of this team, you will be empowered to impact the health care system through the analysis and interpretation of data, and presenting recommendations for business solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee individuals performing comprehensive research and identify billing abnormalities, questionable billing practices and/or irregularities
  • Manage research and analyses of claims data to determine details of fraudulent or abusive billing activity
  • Direct internal and on-site audits of provider records, clinical records and itemized bills so as to ensure appropriateness of billing practices and correct errors or overpayments
  • Set team direction, resolve problems and provide guidance to members of own team
  • Adapt departmental plans and priorities to address business and operational challenges
  • Influence or provide input to forecasting and planning activities
  • Collaborate with business matrix partners to deliver value to our clients by ensuring key operational, financial and growth targets are achieved
  • Present analysis and interpretation for operational and business review and planning
  • Analyse and translate data to determine financial impact and develop recommendations for action plans
  • Provide support around adhoc operations analysis requests

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Health Administration, related field or equivalent work experience
  • Experience of managing business partners in a matrix organization
  • Proficiency in performing financial analysis including statistical calculation and interpretation
  • Experience gathering requirements from the business and documenting
  • Experience with process improvement, benchmarking and / or evaluation of business processes
  • Proficiency with PC based software programs and automated database management systems (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, SQL)
  • Ability to communicate analysis including trends and opportunities to clients, executive leadership and the business in writing and verbally
  • Ability to problem solve including multiple priorities and research conflicting and/or inaccurate data
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office
