UnitedHealthOne is the individual health insurance segment of UnitedHealthcare's Employer & Individual business.  Most of the IT support for UHOne is provided by a team of professionals located in Indianapolis and Green Bay.  We work collaboratively with IT colleagues across UnitedHealthcare and Optum to satisfy customer and business needs.  The UHOne IT team has 100+ full time IT employees, 100+ off-shore Optum IT employees, and 50+ contractors. We work with a wide variety of technologies from .NET to SQL to COBOL.
Please note: This is position is office based in Indianapolis, IN. This is not work from home or telecommute position.
The Director of Configuration, reporting to the Chief Information Officer, is responsible for the Application Configuration team handling UnitedHealthOne products and applications.  This team is responsible for the documentation of benefits requirements working with the plan design, providing benefit source of truth documentation to Call Centers, configuration of benefits into the claim system, testing of configuration changes in the claims system, and oversight of workforce management and inventory processes.
The Director of Configuration is also responsible for the following:
  • Configuration Build – Implementation, Migrations and New Growth Initiatives
  • Configuration Quality Management (CQM) Testing
    • Project (Implementation, Migrations, New Growth)
    • Steady State (Category 5, Global Tickets, Other Projects)
  • Quality Documentation Support (QDS)
  • Training (Knowledge Management
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Accountable for leading Facets configuration solutions supporting UnitedHealthOne products, benefits, and markets
  • Provides leadership to and is accountable for the performance and direction through multiple layers of management and senior level professional staff
  • End to end operational responsibility of assigned function with a critical focus on quality
  • Develops and executes strategies that span the business unit or multiple markets
  • Evaluation of overall performance by gathering, analyzing and interpreting data and metrics, with a critical focus on quality performance and turnaround time (TAT) metrics
  • Directs others to resolve business problems that affect multiple functions or disciplines
  • Oversight and managing assessment of future state/growth to identify preparedness and proactively identify business changes needed to be successful
  • Planning and monitoring the day-to-day running of Configuration Team to ensure smooth progress.
  • Product, service or process decisions are most likely to impact multiple functions and/or customer accounts (internal/external)
  • Utilize and improve the existing tools to measure performance and ensure consistent achievement of business objectives
  • Consistently demonstrates ability to succeed in a continuously changing and challenging environment
  • Develop innovative operational solutions and implement successfully to deliver results
  • Develop a climate for superior customer service experience
  • Lead initiatives and drive change throughout organization
  • Analyze and identify trends and provide reports as necessary
  • Communicate and collaborate within matrix environment, develops partnerships with key business partners, including, but not limited to:
    • Claims Operations, Customer Service, IT, Sales Operations, Product Design
  • Development of employee (direct and indirect staff), assignment of goals for personal development (MAP) and organizational goals
  • Ensures departmental policies and procedures are followed
  • Works with other operational teams and business partners to resolve operational issues
  • Serves as subject matter expert on benefit configuration methodologies; best practice, configuration standards, and tools
  • Identify and resolve operational issues using defined processes and methodologies
  • Identifies issues that might impact quality or productivity
  • Lead configuration teams in cross functional projects and achieve timely and accurate deliverables
  • Collaborate on product, services or process decisions that are most likely to impact multiple functions and/or customer accounts (internal/external)
  • Support team employee engagement and continually working to meet and/or improve vital signs results – conduct skip level meetings as well as focus groups to stay connected with front line staff and proactively identify opportunities
  • Administer human resource policies, salary decisions, incentive programs, and performance management for direct reports - conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports
  • Provide direction and prioritization of work based on business demands

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of healthcare industry experience
  • 10+ years of management experience
  • 5+ years of Facets configuration experience
  • Demonstrated ability to transform strategy into execution within operation workflow processes
  • Experience managing production and budget in an operations/transaction environment
  • Demonstrated track record with developing and executing on organization transformation
  • Demonstrated communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to interact with both staff and senior leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to influence change
  • Demonstrated success in employee engagement with strong satisfaction, employee development and positive environment
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Claim, implementation or benefit setup experience
  • Experience managing a staff of 15+ employees in a matrix environment
