This position serves as the Director of Strategic Insights and Integrated Solutions.  The role is accountable for Specialty Benefits’ total health solutions across product lines and business platforms. This position also directs the day-to-day Competitive research and analysis, market intelligence function for Specialty benefits. Continual customer-centered innovation is a key responsibility. 

 

In close collaboration with Segment Leads and Business Lines, develop multi-year roadmap and strategies to address:

  • Integrated offerings and solutions

  • Product and service expansions to address broader Specialty portfolio gaps

  • Innovative opportunities for expansion (technology, services, funding innovations, value adds)

  • Short and long term cross-Specialty pipeline planning

 

This role is the key point person for coordinating and generating forward-looking and market-relevant product & clinical strategies at the National and Regional levels in response to customer demands and industry trends. The role provides strategic direction across the customer segments and connects Product and Marketing/Sales strategies as appropriate.  Understands key indicators to assess product performance and inform decisions about product features and viability.  Influences health plan Product strategy to achieve profitable, sustainable Specialty Benefits growth across all regions and markets.

 

This position reports directly to the Vice President, Business Innovation, Specialty Benefits, and works in close partnership with the General Manager of Financial Protection Product Lines; Market Solutions teams, Directors of Financial Protection, Dental, Vision and Product Development, legal, actuarial, underwriting, marketing and Regional Sales and Account Management teams. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop end-to-end Specialty products, business innovation, and clinical programs, at the National and Regional levels.

  • Direct day-to-day research, analysis and communicate industry and customer trends, field competitive intelligence, and sales performance indicators to inform relevant and competitive product strategies that will set UHC Specialty Benefits apart from competitors. 

  • Align and coordinate product strategies across Financial Protection portfolio, including bundling strategies within full Enterprise spectrum of capabilities.

  • Monitor competitive landscape. Partners closely with market solutions team and trade organizations to serve as the tip of the spear in market awareness.

  • Drive consistency of product experience and approach across Commercial portfolios as applicable.

  • Provides leadership among “go-to-market contributors” to develop market-facing materials and communications related to new products and product strategies.   

  • Analyzing business market data, collaborates with Product and Underwriting leadership to formulate and set Regional or National product and pricing strategies.

  • Project manager for business / operations programs where Product is the sponsor of the change.

  • Collaborates with other functional leaders in a matrix organization, serving as a key leader for Product-related initiatives.

  • Works collaboratively with internal and external business partners, establishing solid working relationships with field leadership.

  • Leadership role in development and packaging of UHC Spec Bens value story, develops “one story” across lines of business, working in collaboration with other Product leaders, market solutions, sales and business lines.


Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ yrs. successful product development, management, and/or strategic marketing experience developing and/or managing multiple products and services

  • 10+ years’ experience using competitive intelligence effectively, market research and voice of the customer to drive strategic product plans, including sales forecasting and execution

  • 10+ years group benefits experience

  • BA or BS Required

  • Demonstrated understanding of group market dynamics and competitive environment

  • Strong financial, analytical, data synthesis, strategic thinking and decision-making skills

  • Ability to influence without authority and lead individuals and teams with or without direct management accountability

  • Proven success with driving results through a highly matrixed, often ambiguous environment

  • Highly adaptable and able to manage large number of initiatives simultaneously

  • Demonstrates decisiveness in resolving business problems

  • Proven ability to execute, excellent attention to detail and follow through

  • Superior interpersonal skills, influence, collaboration, and listening skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years group benefits experience with Group Health, Specialty, Retirement, Wellness or Clinical Engagement programs
  • MBA or equivalent preferred
