Position Summary

Lead the Beauty & Personal Care Businesses including all buying, promotional planning and merchandising functions with the mission of further developing and growing the business while achieving or exceeding budgeted financial goals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Actively manage the Beauty & Personal Care businesses to achieve annual financial goals including sales objectives, retail and wholesale gross margin, wholesale income, shrink, known loss, inventory turns and service level, making strategic and tactical adjustments as necessary.
  • Drive the development of strategic plan and annual operating plan (budget) in accordance with HBW/HBC LOB strategic goals and in partnership with the Vice President.
  • Expertise required in new products, consumer behavior, share, competition, fixturing and store layouts to inform decisions and initiate innovation.
  • Lead and support staff by setting clear objectives, ensuring the preparation of Development Action Plans, providing ongoing feedback and coaching to prepare staff for future advancement opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with vendors, stores, logistics, distribution, marketing, wholesale and retail accounting and space management to insure all constituencies' voices are heard.
  • Oversee department layouts and planograms, acting as final arbiter within Beauty & Personal Care and as voice of Beauty & Personal Care in format overall space discussions.
  • Act as the central merchandising and buying interface for all formats (Supermarket, Market District and GEX), working cooperatively with the merchandising counterparts for each banner.
  • Directly responsible for Beauty & Personal Care categories including assortment, pricing strategy, promotion planning and day to day operation of the business.
  • Lead any GEBS and/or supply chain improvement efforts related to Beauty & Personal Care.
  • Aggressively lead Own Brand projects aimed at profitably increasing Own Brand sales and penetration including efforts to reduce cost on existing programs, development and introduction of new items and ongoing monitoring. Must be primary driver of customer focused Own Brand innovation in partnership with Own Brands team.
  • Work cooperatively within a team consisting of multiple health and wellness businesses, sharing best practices and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Comply with all federal, state and local laws as they pertain to HBW/HBC merchandising.
  • Design and execute consumer/customer insights focused business plan with the end goal being increased share and greater in-market household penetration, frequency of shops and basket size.
  • Establish strong relationships with field (store) leadership via regular communication and in-store, face-to-face visits and business walks.
  • Aggressively bubbles up forward running strategic/tactical opportunities to flex out of declining businesses and into new/highly visible growing businesses, driving Giant Eagle's reputation as an innovative and customer focused retail leader.
  • Take a holistic view of the business by mindfully considering information from Giant Eagle's suite of analytics tools and state of business reports while creating their business strategy. These sources include promotional effectiveness measures, shopper insights, Customer Business Measures (CBMs) and focused category analytics and strategic planning (Category Factory).
  • Collaborate with the Customer Connect team, leveraging the analytical expertise and advanced analytical capability of the organization to create robust and intentional 1, 2, and 3 year category plans.
  • Maintain 360 degree view of trends via regular review and exploration of style blogs, social media, trade shows, and trade association participation.
  • Responsible for budget development, expense control and/or revenue generation for a department. Amount of Budgetary Responsibility: \\$5mm +
  • Responsible for direct and indirect supervision of team members in one or more departments.

Education and Training Required

  • Bachelors Degree

Experience Required

  • 5 to 10 years
  • At least five years merchandising experience

Experience Desired

  • Category Management/Leadership Experience with multi unit retailer. Previous P&L accountability for 100 million, or larger, business.
