The New Ventures and Product Innovations Team defines strategy and leads market entry for large-scale, new business ventures  Serving as a major growth engine for OptumInsight, the group works closely with Optum’s senior executives and existing capability leaders to generate growth from market areas that are ripe for disruption.
 
This role is a senior-level position which will lead product strategy and direction for Optum’s suite of patient acquisition technologies and analytics for health systems.  This leader will join an entrepreneurial team working to bring an outcomes-focused solution to market that combines technology, data, and marketing services.  In addition to driving the product roadmap, you will have a key voice in go-to-market strategy, sales, product-side support, and client delivery.  The role is a cross-functional one on an early venture that operates with the resources and challenges of a large organization.  The ideal candidate will be one who brings a strategic, problem-solving lens to product development and has an entrepreneurial spirit.  
 
The role requires strong analytical and communication skills (especially in-person and telephonic communication), high adaptability, strong domain expertise, as well as an entrepreneurial mindset and product management skills. This individual is primarily responsible creating a distinctive product vision, managing the multi-year product roadmap, and creating an effective engineering partnership to deliver a market-leading solution

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and refine product roadmap and vision
  • Support cross-functional strategy and business development work like sales and delivery
  • Play a key role in presenting product vision to internal and client executive teams
  • Understand customer needs and translate them into innovation solutions
  • Partner with data science colleagues to apply advanced analytic techniques such as predictive modeling (e.g. sentiment, propensity, segmentation, clustering, retention, profitability, etc.)
  • Gather accurate technical requirements and evaluate product performance
  • Oversee the development backlog, prioritizing new features, enhancements and defects against clear business priorities
  • Partner with UX strategy, product design, and data science colleagues to lead product discovery, usability, and user research workshop to ensure that we are building high value, usable features
  • Translate product roadmap into marketing collateral and support go-to market efforts

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7+ years of product management/development experience  
  • Experience with advanced analytics and root cause analysis
  • Travel up to 25%
  • Effective formal presentation and facilitation skills in a variety of settings
  • Demonstrable understanding of agile methodologies
  • Experience with consumer products or digital strategy
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong ability to forge close inter-personal relationships within a small group quickly
  • Ability to navigate an ambiguous environment can effectively cope with change, can shift gears comfortably, can decide and act without having the total picture
  • Intellectually curious
  • Strong initiative and motivation
  • Healthcare experience
  • Degree in Entrepreneurial, Design disciplines (Human Centered Design)
  • Digital marketing and/or customer relationship management software experience
  • Advanced degree
  • Client-facing experience
  • Live within a commutable distance to Washington DC
  • Proven ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment
  • Excellent verbal communication and exceptional writing / editing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve goals in a matrix environment
