Position Summary

The Director of Technical Services will be responsible for the strategy, planning, development, installation and optimization of the IT infrastructure across the Company. They will provide direct guidance in ensuring the availability, performance, reliability, and scalability of the Data Centers; oversee the development and execution of strategic and tactical implementation plans; manage the IT infrastructure portfolio; and oversee the planning, design and implementation of data security policies and procedures to safeguard access to enterprise files and data.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the strategy and execution of IT infrastructure services and life cycle planning.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Technical Services management team to support the operations of the entire company on a 24x7x365 basis.
  • Responsible for all network related hardware, software, and services that provide voice, LAN, WAN, and Internet connectivity to all Giant Eagle retail, distribution, manufacturing facilities and corporate offices.
  • Responsible for all mainframe and server hardware and system administration, performance management, storage, backup, and recovery services.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper management and support including system images and delivery of OS and software updates is in place for all desktop computers, laptops, handhelds, printers, scanners and various peripherals for the entire company.
  • Responsible for the strategic direction and support for all database administration, middleware, and web server activities including monitoring tools, performance tools, and general database support.
  • Responsible for data security policy, procedures, and implementations to safeguard against unauthorized access to company files and data.
  • Overall responsibility for all data center facilities and management of hardware and software assets and inventory as well as overseeing computer operations' activities which includes network and system monitoring, job scheduling, and change management processes and execution.
  • Develop and oversee the companies Cloud technology strategy
  • Provide strategic direction for hardware and infrastructure related software procurement that both meets the business needs and continues to reduces costs in addition to overall responsibility of the Company's annual hardware and software maintenance budget.
  • Participate in the creation of the annual IS budget and is responsible for the budget oversight and performance within the Technical Services area.
  • Responsible for participating in the development of the 1-5 year strategic, tactical, and operation plans for department direction in coordination with the Company's strategic plan.
  • Develop partnerships and maintain vendor relationships to ensure that products and services provided are in line with our needs and service level agreements.
  • Actively participate in the IS Governance Process as a member of the Governance Board.
  • Identify re-engineering opportunities through research and analysis of business and system process inefficiencies to ensure the company maintains a competitive advantage with information technology
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry practices and technology pertaining to support, development lifecycles and project management processes

Education and Training Required

  • Bachelors Degree Business, Finance, Information Systems or equivalent job experience

Experience Required

  • Over 10 years
  • 10 years experience in specialized professional technical field
  • Demonstrate a strong customer focus and experience in providing best in-class customer service.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with business partners, vendors and cross-organizational team members
  • Demonstrated success in implementing best practices and process improvements
