Key relationships:
  • Internal: The CEO for OptumServe Consulting provides strategic vision to his/her leadership team; builds strong relationships with the OptumServe executive team and key leaders across Optum/UHG. 
  • External: Develops and nurtures relationships with officials within the government agencies served by this division and those we have an interest in serving, as well as other key marketplace executives. Foster relationships with community leaders and organizations.               `
Main focus & challenges:
The CEO will successfully build upon an existing foundation, while developing an innovative future path focused on growth, profitability, innovation, people and delivering value to our customers and their customers, all in support of the OptumServe strategy. The CEO will establish the vision and strategy for the organization, establish and model the Optum’s culture, values and behaviors, build and lead the executive team and ensure priorities are resourced and aligned for success. The CEO is accountable for providing end-to-end leadership across all aspects of the business, inclusive of supporting functions, and in strong partnership with the OptumServe COO and Chief Growth Officer.
The CEO must understand and keep abreast of the changes impacting the healthcare industry, have a deep understanding of the competitive landscape, recognize opportunities within the federal agencies (i.e., DoD, VA, HHS)  across the respective market segment and position OptumServe to deliver solutions to support their mission. The CEO will cultivate their network of executives and industry thought leaders to build brand recognition and strength in the market to grow the business, with a particular focus on expansion & diversification of customer base.
The CEO will provide direction for operational excellence, innovation, client satisfaction, growth and culture to deliver the organization’s success.
The CEO is responsible for the overall success of the business.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Formulate the vision, strategy and direction of the business
  • Align the organization structure, talent, operations and financials to accelerate attainment of vision and strategy
  • Identify and pursue new market opportunities to drive organic and inorganic, profitable growth
  • Accountable for managing the profit and loss of the business
  • Provide oversight to all functions across the business, including supporting teams
  • Direct & drive the process of long term planning, goal setting and prioritization to meet strategic, operational and financial goals
  • Stay abreast of the competitive landscape and identify strategic alliances, partnerships and merger & acquisition opportunities to drive market position
  • Ensures effective mechanisms for measuring performance of the business are implemented and closely monitored; makes appropriate course corrections in a timely manner
  • Define and build or acquire the necessary capabilities to deliver value to our customers and shareholders; determine most cost effective model
  • Achieve excellence by developing a high performing, diverse leadership team that consistently delivers on our promises to customers, their customers and our employees
  • Effectively selects and aligns talent with the capabilities needed to achieve long term goals

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related graduate degree is preferred
    10+ years of relevant and progressive leadership experience within the federal contracting arena and healthcare consulting, research and analytics
  • Extensive experience in leading delivery of large scale, complex federal programs and the corresponding knowledge of federal contracting requirements (i.e. CAS, FAR, FISMA, SCA)
  • Has led successful healthcare consulting business in the federal market, with profit and loss accountability
  • Demonstrated financial acumen including strong financial controls and the ability to effectively lead through times of change and market challenges
  • Demonstrated experience in developing a strategic vision, direction and constructing a strategic plan with measurable and attainable milestones
  • Demonstrated visionary thinking and ability to translate to business strategies that create or sustain competitive advantage
  • Extensive experience in building core capabilities for an organization
  • Proven track record as a leader who can effectively build high performing teams and develop strong relationships within a multi-functional, complex organization, while  leading the organization through change/transformation
  • Proven capability to drive quality results through setting clear goals, and effectively inspiring optimal performance of individuals and teams
