Divisional Merchandise Manager

Cost Plus World Market - Alameda, California

General Overview:
Directs the merchandising team to conceptualize, develop, assort, market and deliver a merchandise offering which delivers the company financial objectives and is consistent with our brand identity. Provide leadership in all aspects of the business. Develop strong collaborative partnerships within the company and with external resources. Manage the professional development of the buying team.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and drive business strategies, present seasonal line plans and communicate overall direction to the team
  • Manage financial objectives to optimize sales, comp sales, gross margin, and inventory
  • Deliver strategic plans in adherence to the retail merchandising calendar
  • Build strong partnerships with Planning and Allocation, Visual Merchandising, Store Operations and the Distribution Centers to consistently execute a strong merchandise assortment
  • Develop and manage the promotional strategy to maximize profit potential
  • Regularly monitor, analyze and report on business performance
  • Identify trends and maximize growth opportunities
  • Responsible for the professional development of the buying team

Position Requirements:

  • At least 10 years retail merchandising experience with at least 3 years in a DMM capacity
  • 3 Year of Furniture Development and Merchandising experience
  • Excellent financial and analytical background
  • Ability to identify, develop and manage existing business and spot future trends
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact and influence all levels of management
  • Strong understanding of the business, its operating needs, and how decisions enhance or deter its success
  • Strong understanding of retail practices and operational policies
  • Product development background, with a proven track record of success in direct importing of merchandise
  • Proven team-building skills, with a strong interest in professional development
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft Excel and Windows
