We dedicate an elite team to serve our United Healthcare Families primarily with Children with Special Needs as well as other specialized populations because we recognize that the health care system needs to be tailored to work for every individual and family to best serve their specific needs. When you join us as an RN, you’ll have the opportunity to support a team of non-clinical Advisors who deliver an extraordinary experience to families who need an ally that is empowered to fast track resolving issues and serves as an ongoing resource to provide clinical guidance. You will use your clinical expertise to guide advisors as they help families resolve challenges that can include complex benefit, claims and billing issues, prior authorizations, appeals and more. Additionally, you may also directly work with families, providers, and other UHG groups to resolve issues.
 
You will use your clinical knowledge to act as a liaison between the member support team, members and the multiple disciplines that impact the experience, while offering problem solving, education and guidance. Your primary goal is to first understand the member’s need, eliminating confusion and providing resolution, all while showing empathy. Members have a reliable ally in the health care system because you and your team are there when they need you most. You and your team will make a difference.

This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8 hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 7:00am – 7:00pm CST within a call center setting. Our office is located in Eden Prairie, MN, Green Bay, WI, or Kingston, NY.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Proactively collaborate and solve clinical roadblocks with internal team members and external (providers) contacts to work through member issues on a case by case basis
  • Work with members to understand their clinical issues and communicate those issues to providers when necessary
  • Understand members medical history and to help find support for members with undiagnosed medical complexity
  • Drive team consultation, research and collaboration to expand the skill set of the team in meeting the diverse needs of the special needs population
  • Proactively review new, in process, and closed cases to identify opportunities to provide guidance to members and the team
  • Escalate and articulate quality of care concerns to the Medical Director, and collaborate with involved parties to develop solutions and close communication to members
  • Identify and incorporate holistic environmental and cultural factors that impact the health and experience for our members and families
  • Identify priorities to address business and operational challenges interfering with the needs of the members
  • Demonstrate active, empathetic listening to develop solutions with members, multidisciplinary providers and internal team
  • Relay complex information across teams and to members in a plain, clear manner
  • Continually provide feedback and insight on process improvements

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working directly with complex pediatric patients and families
  • Current and unrestricted RN License in the state of residence
  • Ability to obtain compact or multiple state nursing licenses (Application fees and filing costs paid for by UHG)
  • Graduate of an Accredited RN program
  • Proficient in multi - tasking and navigating multiple computer programs simultaneously while talking on the phone
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Genuine passion for child and family
  • Background with complex case management
  • Digs deeper, proactively anticipates not just medical but also system processes and issues
  • Adaptability. This team is new so roles will be morphing as we learn how the operation should function long-term
  • Familiar with systems including but not limited to, ISET, ICUE, PHMC
  • Ability to effectively navigate the health system
  • Experience providing care for children with special needs
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Case management experience  
  • Certified Case Manager (CCM)
  • Managed Care experience
  • Relationship management experience
  • Experience working with the needs of vulnerable populations who have chronic or complex bio - psychosocial needs
