UnitedHealthcare Community & State is seeking a Finance Manager to join the segment’s Business Development Finance team. The Finance Manager will be an integral part of BD Finance supporting an aggressive new product/market growth agenda in the Medicaid space. The position will engage directly with the broader UHC C&S Growth / Business Development team providing financial and competitive analysis for various types of Requests for Proposal (RFPs). A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to perform detailed analyses of opportunities and also produce polished, executive-level presentations. The position will work on a daily basis with others on the BD Finance team, collaborate extensively with our business and health plan partners, and must be comfortable working independently and as part of a team. Primary Responsibilities:
  • Interpret RFPs and the financial/strategic opportunities they represent for the UnitedHealthcare Community & State business.
  • Assess competitive landscape and formulate UHC C&S market share / membership projections for rebid, product carve-in and greenfield opportunities
  • Lead and provide oversight for administrative cost builds capturing applicable start-up, value-add service and ongoing staffing costs for opportunities; lead staffing benchmarking and "Challenge Session" activities.  Partner with UHC C&S Actuarial Team on pro forma builds
  • Prepare new business opportunity analysis materials; obtain UHC C&S Regional and Executive leadership review and signoff.  Present financial materials at opportunity analysis meetings to inform opportunity go/no-go decisions
  • Engage with UHC C&S FP&A and Operating Cost teams to ensure new business opportunities are accurately captured in the forecasting process
  • Develop innovative approaches to streamline C&S BD processes / achieve deliverables.  Employ technical knowledge (e.g. VBA, web forms, text files) to automate disparate staffing submission uploads, aggregation and monetization in op ex model
  • Manage one or more direct reports.  Help to grow individual contributors on the team to be the next managers of people of the team
  • Ad Hoc analyses.  Support/lead complex processes adjacent/related to BD Finance
  • Work in a self-directed, non-prescribed format with less structured, more complex issues
  • Serve as a resource to others.  Share business/process knowledge with the team and collaborate to develop 'best in class' processes.  View/shape our team's work through and executive lens
  • Lead, with limited oversight, all financial aspects of C&S new business opportunities end-to-end, including executive financial preparation/review

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Health Administration or another technical related field from an accredited college or university
  • 5+ years of experience with data analysis and working with large data sets required; background of collecting data using different sources
  • Financial acumen and P&L management skills
  • Strong Excel skills: data analysis & report generation (formulas, calculations, pivot tables, charts, graphs, etc.)
  • Strong PowerPoint / presentation skills: ability to produce polished, executive level decks distilling down large amounts of information to what is most important and effectively “telling the story”
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience managing people
  • Possess a background in the healthcare Industry; general knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare and/or Commercial health plans
  • Familiar with UnitedHealthcare segments/products
  • RFP process experience
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Hyperion Essbase / SmartView
  • Model automation / technical expertise (VBA, web forms, text files)
  • Be comfortable with changing priorities and an environment of organizational change
  • Experience working cross functionally
  • Experience working for a large company
  • Excellent communication, time/project management, problem solving, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Comfortable interacting with various levels of management
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible and adaptable
  • Ability to learn quickly and work with minimal supervision
  • Self-motivated to prioritize work on multiple complex assignments
  • Ability to meet deadlines
