The Financial Counselor functions according to hospital policy and procedures. Contacts and interviews patients to obtain insurance and financial documentation necessary to facilitate collections. Follows guidelines set forth by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and represents the hospital in a professional, positive and courteous manner.
Responsibilities include working with patients in assessing financial responsibility for services rendered, collection of documents required in that process and communicating both to the patient and departments need for consideration. Work with the registrars to answer patient concerns regarding finances, seeing patients both in-house and outpatient to review documents. Work reports regarding correcting insurances, requesting billing and adjustments and working refunds.Qualifications
High School diploma. Two or more years of customer service, financial counseling and collections a plus. Must have good communication skills, detail oriented and have strong computer skills.
