Government Relations Manager, Public Strategy Group

The MENTOR Network

The MENTOR Network is a national network of local health and human services providers operating in 36 states.  The Public Strategy Group is responsible for developing and implementing The Network’s agenda with regard to communications, investor relations, marketing & proposal development, government & community affairs and corporate philanthropy.


As a key member of the Public Strategy Group Government Relations team, the Government Relations Manager will play a critical role in the day-to-day activities of an aggressive government relations agenda impacting The MENTOR Network and its partners, working closely with state and corporate leadership as appropriate. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, strategic thinker who is capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.


Key Responsibilities


Work collaboratively with the Government Relations team to advance and implement a strategic approach and advocacy agenda consistent with overall Network priorities and efforts, including supporting a policy agenda that places a priority on the best interests of the individuals served by The Network.


Identify and advance business opportunities (also minimizing potential business threats) and keep corporate and state operations leadership informed of key public policy activities and developments at both the state and federal level.


Develop, implement and lead a strategic approach to engage corporate and operations leadership with the goal of identifying and prioritizing proactive legislative and regulatory initiatives that support key business objectives and drive business development opportunities. 


As assigned, engage in advocacy initiatives and problem solving around escalated issues, including advocating before federal and state policy makers.


Manage The Network’s relationships with assigned federal and state political consultants.


Serve as a key resource and consultant to state-based operations leadership on political and public policy issues.


Reporting to the Vice President of External Affairs, the successful candidate will have a minimum of 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in state or federal government, politics, health policy or another related field and be self-starter and team player with the ability to set and meet deadlines.
