Position Summary

The Health, Beauty, & Wellness (HBW)/General Merchandise (GM) Team Leader at Market District must provide leadership in both the HBW and GM departments. This leadership must bring the Market District concept to life by offering unique products of the highest quality, unparalleled customer service, and overall customer experience that is both exciting and satisfying. The HBW/GM Team Leader will direct Team Members, order products and supplies, and implement merchandising initiatives to stimulate growth of the business and maximize profits as well as the operating performance of the department at all times. The department and Team Members must provide unparalleled customer service through prompt, professional and friendly service.

Job Responsibilities

  • Actively support a culture of safety which includes, but is not limited to, food safety, Team Member safety and customer safety. This includes ensuring a clean environment where health and OSHA requirements are met at all times.
  • Display a commitment to learn about food and share food knowledge with fellow Team Members and customers
  • Schedule, manage, supervise, and oversee HBW and GM including department Leads and clerks to maintain department and ensure department conditions remain unparalleled meeting Market District standards.
  • Stock shelves by taking product from backroom, opening boxes, and stocking product to proper location on shelf.
  • Attend all conference calls, weekly store staff meetings, and quarterly meetings and yearly conferences as indicated by leadership.
  • Order products to ensure appropriate inventory control and in-stock conditions to meet customer satisfaction.
  • Prepare, maintain, and track records concerning inventories and work processes to calculate gross monthly profit according to Company policy.
  • Manage and implement all product tags including weekly tags, new items, discontinued items, special promotions, etc.
  • Ensure maintenance of both departments including cleanliness and overall esthetics. Immediately reports and facilitates the repair or replacement of all fixtures, décor, displays, racks, etc. Merchandising display standards are expected to be maintained at the level of premium of specialty retailer or department stores.
  • Manage sales and profitability of the department by tracking weekly and periodic financial reports and making appropriate adjustments when needed.
  • Actively demonstrate appropriate suggestive selling techniques. Provide active selling opportunities, when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and passion for all company products and services across the HBW and GM departments.
  • Deliver a legendary guest experience that includes maintaining a high-energy, positive environment, where behaviors that support guest-centric service are consistently demonstrated.
  • Conduct business at all times, with a clear understanding that customer service is a significant point of difference for the Market District banner. Every interaction, whether with an internal or external customer, is to be conducted with the highest degree of integrity and with an understand that the end result is to deliver service in an unparalleled manner.

  • Develop creative merchandising programs and in-store promotional programs that maximize product awareness and provide an outstanding experience that delights our customers resulting in sales and profit.
  • Control department costs by monitoring and improving operations to increase profitability.
  • Promote the continuous development of employees and identify candidates for future management roles.
  • Responsible for controlling some expense within a department.
  • Responsible for direct and indirect supervision of team members in one or more departments.

Education and Training Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience Required

  • 3 to 5 years

Experience Desired

  • Two to five years work experience in drugstore, health, wellness, beauty, personal care, Grocery General Merchandise retail or equivalent
  • Experience with creating and executing merchandising strategies and displays
  • Strong understanding and familiarity of traditional, specialty, and natural & organic health and beauty products
  • Management experience in drugstore, health, beauty, or personal care environment
  • Ability to read and interpret Profit and Loss statement
  • Knowledge of Market District operational procedures
  • Customer service experience
