Responsibilities
Responsibilities
  • Prepares microscopic slides for diagnostic purposes
  • Accurately orients tissue in paraffin blocks
  • Produces high quality slides using a microtome
  • Assists pathologist with frozen sections, fine needle aspirations, and fine needle biopsies.
  • Must possess working knowledge and theory of histologic technique in immunohistochemistry and special stain technique.
  • Enters surgical specimen data into the computer system
  • Performs cytopreparatory duties as needed
  • Monitors instrumentation; performs Quality Control and Preventative Maintenance

Qualifications

Education:

AA degree in the biological sciences and one year of supervised training in histologic technique

 

Experience:

One-year previous experience preferred

 

Licenses/Certification:

HT(ASCP) or HLT(ASCP) certification preferred or certification must be passed within 6 months of employment
