Quality Assurance & LIS Coordinator


This position is dedicated to information technology, generating meaningful quality reports and statistics and all quality aspects of quality. Laboratory Services will assume responsibility for all LIS validations of new, modified and existing systems and middleware and will work independently under the direction of the Administrative Director of Laboratory Services.

This position will require close coordination with the IT department for IT related projects, in conjunction with department leaders and or appointed task force team members to facilitate process implementation, monitor and collect data for assessment and evaluation of outcomes to identify areas of opportunity for improvement for the Pathology and Laboratory Services. 
Chestnut Hill Hospital Laboratory is seeking a medical technologist to join our Laboratory as the Quality and LIS Coordinator. Under the direction of the Administrative Director of Laboratory Services, the Quality & LIS Coordinator is responsible for planning and coordinating all of the functions within the scope of LIS and Quality. The Quality & LIS Coordinator is expected to remain current with OSHA, CLIA, DOH, The Joint Commission and CAP best practices. Ideal candidates will have 2 plus years of experience as a bench Medical Technologist in a clinical laboratory. 








  1. Maintains the Laboratory Information System (LIS).  Utilizes strong critical thinking skills in all areas of the position.  Ensures that the hospital obtains maximum benefit from the LIS by continually monitoring system operation and performance, coordinating the performance of all changes, corrections, enhancements, upgrades, education, etc. 
  2. Provides hardware and software technical support to laboratory staff, including instrument interfaces, and troubleshoots miscellaneous problems.  Trains new staff on the use of the LIS.  Contacts and logs problems as required.  Coordinates implementation and upgrades of software and hardware. 
  3. Maintains Laboratory Charge-Master.  Creates and schedules reports as required. Reviews and corrects Laboratory billing.  Reviews and revises LIS policies and procedures to assure compliance with regulatory agency standards.  Maintains proficiency in technical areas as required. 
  4. Understands trends in technology and where our service adds value. Focuses on critical issues and eliminates roadblocks. Communicates effectively with internal and external customers. 
  5. Write and review of Standard Operation Procedure for I.T and QA. Provide training and help convert data into information for assessing competency of Quality programs. 
  6. Support department leaders in equipment validation and interface integrity across systems. 
  1. Maintain validation documentation for updates/upgrades/installs for all lab systems and servers. Conduct periodic review of laboratory orders from order to result to confirm accuracy of transmission of data, calculations and reports in LIS and middleware. 

  2. Work in collaboration with the Medical Director, Administrative Laboratory Director, Laboratory Supervisors, Staff to assign priorities and identify resources for process Improvement. Participate in process improvement projects when needed. 
  3.  Complexity of Work: This role requires critical thinking skills, effective communication, decisive judgment, and the ability to build and foster positive relationships. The incumbent must be able to lead others and take appropriate action when required. 
  • Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Reviewing, interpreting and maintaining the Quality Control Program.
    • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agency standards for inspection readiness.
    • Arranging for and conducting internal quality audits.
    • Coordinating proficiency survey programs.
    • Writing and reviewing SOP's.
    • Maintaining compliance with all regulatory standards to ensure that services are of the highest quality.
    • Review proficiency survey results and conduct corrective action investigations.
    • Assisting supervisors with performance improvement/quality management monitors.








  • Bachelor degree or higher degree in a life science (Medical Technology strongly preferred)
  • Two or more year’s clinical laboratory, LIS and quality compliance experience.
  • Must have work experience as a Medical Technologist or MLT. ASCP certification is required. MLT must be enrolled into a Medical Laboratory Bachelor’s Degree program to be qualified for this position.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication both oral and written.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
