We are seeking an experienced data strategist and analyst to support the UnitedHealthcare Community & State Consumer Office. The Consumer Office is responsible for the Community & State Net Promoter Score strategy as we continue to enhance the member experience and drive our Net Promoter Score higher. This person will be a highly motivated and independent self-starter who enjoys diving deeply into understanding member data to find answers to current and yet unknown questions.  This individual will need to have a natural desire to go beneath the surface of a problem to ask the right (business) questions, and produce answers by digging into multiple data sources and applying statistical rigor.  The ideal candidate will have a knack for thinking “Big Picture” as well as enjoy digging into the details and applying three key elements to challenging healthcare problems: Analytical Rigor, Creativity and Business Focus. The person will work closely with business stakeholders in solving critical business problems through the application of data analytic techniques. The ideal candidate will also have experience in predictive analytics and a natural curiosity for data concepts.  
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for designing and developing data analytic driven solutions to business problems
  • Handles a vast amount of data from multiple databases to extract business insights and make valuable discoveries leading to business improvement
  • Analyzes complex member data (e.g. relational databases, unstructured data such as speech analysis) and turn those into actionable insights
  • Undertake rigorous and meticulous data analysis to extract and distill key population insights that will be consumed by functions such as network, clinical, product and consumer marketing
  • Discover trends and anomalies and analyze to identify root causes and drivers. Dig beneath the surface of a problem to ascertain the “Why” in the backend data, uncover the true reasons data patterns and skews may be showing up, and convert those findings into clear data-backed recommendations through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization  techniques to influence future strategies (e.g. Tell a Story with the Data)
  • Build, develop, enhance and maintain data models, reporting systems, data automation systems, dashboards, analytic templates and performance metrics that support key business decisions
  • Manages and optimize processes for data intake, validation, mining and analytics as well as modeling, visualization and communication deliverables
  • Coordinate, gather and provide member survey direction to obtain additional data. Integrate after-survey data with current multiple sources.
  • Consult with partners to identify and define business requirements and translate business needs into complex analytics and recommendations
  • Partner throughout the organization to give direction on the development of predictive models based on demographic, psychographic, econometric and statistical data that deliver insights related to member engagement and provide direction based on priority drivers
  • Partner to lead advanced analytics and data science projects including understanding strategies to make recommendations on how to apply data science methods to achieve business goals

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in a data analytics work environment
  • 2+ years SAS experience
  • 2+ years of experience in extracting and developing key consumer insights within a population
  • 2+ years of experience  in distilling insights and presenting to business leadership
  • 2+ years of experience in simplifying complex analytics concepts and insights into information that is consumed by non-analytics audiences
  • 2+ years of experience managing and integrating data connections between multiple data sources
  • 2+ years of experience and comfort working with large datasets
  • 2+ years of experience providing direction to build predictive models to prioritize opportunities
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • 2+ years of experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, and Power BI
  • Undergraduate degree in computer science, information technology, analytics, data science or statistics or related degree or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrable track record of strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to thrive in an environment that is tasked with providing data-driven decision support and business intelligence that is timely, accurate and actionable
  • Highly motivated with ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to query databases and perform statistical analysis; strong understanding of statistics and statistical theory
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal); ability to present communication plans to customers
  • Highly evolved problem-solving skills and adept at understanding and resolving unstructured problems
  • Strong team player, adept in multi-tasking
  • Creative strategist with ability to execute plans with strong attention to detail
  • Works independently with minimal direction
  • Familiarity with machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions
  • Strong knowledge of extracting and developing key consumer insights within a population, distilling insights, and presenting to business leadership
