Manager -- Tax Accounting and Business Advisory

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Responsible for ensuring the Company is in compliance with all GAAP requirements associated with the accounting for income taxes. Responsible for managing the interface with Accounting in the development of accounting policies and resulting tax implications. Responsible for reporting special events such as tax planning strategies, accounting methods, etc.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manage the quarterly and year-end accounting for income tax processes (ASC 740) including: periodic reporting of income taxes included in Company financial statements; account reconciliations; maintenance of an inventory of deferred income taxes; and effective tax rate and other analysis of income tax amounts. Manage processes to ensure timely recognition and financial reporting of period specific income tax events such as quarterly evaluations of legislative developments (U.S. federal, state and applicable non-U.S. jurisdictions), transactions, business initiatives, and tax planning. Manage the documentation of the Company's uncertain tax positions with regard to income and operating tax exposures. Ensure timely updates of relevant documentation of each position.
  2. Build and strengthen relationships with other individuals and groups within the Department and the Company and work in a collaborative manner to ensure that the Tax Department is viewed as an effective and trusted business partner. Participate in the development of restructuring strategies to ensure the Company operates in the most tax efficient structure for tax purposes. Special projects - research and implementation for planning, structuring and special projects as assigned.
  3. Serve as liaison with the Company's internal and external auditors. Manage the day to day conduct of all reviews/audits of the income tax accounting positions, disclosures and workpapers of the Company. Assist with the development of internal controls to ensure proper control design and control effectiveness. Ensure all tax process control documentation requirements are effective, maintained, and updated in accordance with all legal requirements and Company standards.
  4. Manage the relationship with the Accounting Department regarding all tax accounting and reporting matters. Understand the book accounting for various transactions to ensure the tax accounting and reporting positions are correct and appropriate.
  5. Manage, supervise and guide the professional in the tax accounting role. Develop, train, coach and recognize talent of the team. Provide technical oversight, guidance and expertise to team members. Motivate the team to accomplish group goals and ensure the efficient, productive operation of the team. Conduct regular performance appraisals and mentor individuals toward career development and personal growth. Actively support skill development training and continuous improvement. Create an environment of accountability and collaboration. Partner with other Tax Department members in cross-functional goals and projects. Strive for a team that consistently delivers value-added services that increase shareholder value.

 

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting
  • CPA
  • Masters of Taxation (or similar degree)

 

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION:

  • At least 6 years of tax experience is required with at least 3 years of specific experience with tax accounting (ASC 740), preferably in a large corporate work environment which may be in industry, Big 4 accounting firm or similar surroundings. Management experience is required.

DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY:

  • This position has the authority to make technical decisions and process-oriented decisions relative to all aspects of income tax accounting for the Company as well as administrative decisions relative to financial and human resources for their assigned Team.

 

DIRECT REPORTS:

  • This position has 1 direct report to supervise and manage. Additionally, the position relies on 2 to 5 additional professionals who will be utilized at sometimes to execute the required tasks and responsibilities for the tax accounting function.
