Position Summary

The Assistant Meat Manager's first responsibility is to assist in the management of the Meat Department to ensure customer requirements are met and build customer loyalty by providing unparalleled customer service.Market District Managers are honest, engaging, respectful and authentic and display a curiosity about food. Managers are an integral part of Market District's distinct point of difference. This role is designed to inspire our Team Members and customers to discover the pleasure of food. Market District Managers have a proven record of leadership and are willing and able to follow the competency model of climbing the hill, seeing the hill and leading others up the hill. Additional responsibilities include delivering profitable growth targets.

Job Responsibilities

  • Actively support a culture of safety which includes, but is not limited to, food safety, Team Member safety and customer safety.
  • Display a commitment to learn about food and share food knowledge with fellow team members and customers.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn, understand, and communicate the Market District Passion for Food philosophy, which includes the willingness to taste and experience new product offerings.
  • Actively demonstrate appropriate suggestive selling techniques.
    Provide active selling opportunities, when appropriate.

  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment, tables, utensils, floor (to ensure safety), and sanitation regulations are met.
  • Assist Meat Manager in running of Meat Department by writing orders, assigning job assignments, and maintaining conditions in department.
  • Provide customers with variety of cuts of meat and filling sales cases by assisting in cutting of meat.
  • Maintain levels of product in sales cases by inspecting product levels and preparing products for case.
  • Ensure that proper procedures are being followed so that store meets out-of-stock percentage goal.
  • Promote the continuous development of Team Member and identify candidates for Management Development Process.
  • Provide leadership that promotes and exemplifies a Passion for Food.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
    Unloading and checking in orders.
    Stocking frozen foods and lunch meats to sales case and unloading deliveries in cooler and freezer.
    Maintain cold-chain process.
  • Responsible for controlling some expense within a department.
  • Supervision of team members within an area or section of a department.

Education and Training Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience Required

  • 3 to 5 years

Experience Desired

  • Prior management experience in Meat operations/ or related field
  • Customer Service Experience
  • Knowledge of Market District meat operational procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret Profit and Loss statement

Age Requirement

  • At least 18 years of age
