Oncology Nurse Practitioner, NP / PA-C- Las Vegas, NV, 15k Sign On Bonus for External Candidates

Optum Medical Partners is seeking an accomplished Oncology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for our Breast Surgical Oncology division with OptumCare Cancer Care located in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The incumbent would work closely with our Breast Surgeons in both an outpatient and inpatient setting. This is an outstanding opportunity for a provider who wants to remain clinically active while helping to shape the future of cancer care in Southern Nevada.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • The successful candidate shall be a practicing NP/PA who will join our growing comprehensive breast surgical program which includes: direct collegial onsite support from a multidisciplinary cancer team
  • Diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with breast cancer diseases according to standard, usual and acceptable or customary methods and techniques in the outpatient and inpatient settings
  • The ideal candidate should also carry exceptional inter-personal skills with a goal of sharing a vision of unparalleled delivery of care through teamwork, collaboration, innovation and persistence for excellence
  • Performs APN/First Assist duties in the OR and/or clinic with complete knowledge of the disease process and whole patient care scenario, including, but not limited to: positioning, preparation and draping of the patient; tissue manipulation; utilization of tying and suturing materials; drain/tube insertion; deep and superficial wound closure; application of internal devices and any other autonomous duties or procedures delegated by the attending surgeon
  • Performs non-anesthesia minor surgical procedures without in-room supervision
  • Meets the specific needs of the attending surgeon and maintains the technical skills necessary to handle a broad range of breast surgery cases
  • Consults, collaborates and communicates well with the surgeon and other consulting medical providers
  • Evaluates care and orders and interprets appropriate labs, special studies (i.e. radiographic studies), IVs  and therapeutic interventions as required
  • Educates and counsels patients
  • Performs comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations, including: outpatient, inpatient, pre and post op care
  • Writes orders as directed by breast surgeon for pre-operative, intraoperative, post-operative and clinical follow up care and completes documentation in a timely fashion
  • Communicate practice knowledge effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Apply skills in peer review to promote a culture of excellence
  • Anticipates variations in practice and is proactive in implementing interventions to ensure quality
  • Analyze clinical guidelines for individualized application into practice
  • Collaborate in planning for transitions across the continuum of care
  • NP or PA will also work collaboratively with Surgeons to implement a breast cancer survivorship clinic.  Provider will work with patients to facilitate access to: nutrition services, counseling services, symptom management, palliative care, as well as disease management and patient education

Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of  surgical experience, or other specialty in lieu of 1+ yrs. of Oncology background will be considered
  • National Nurse Practitioner certification in Adult, Family or Geriatrics, or Certified Physician Assistant or ability to obtain prior to employment
  • APRN or PA-C licensure in Nevada, or ability to obtain prior to employment
  • DEA or ability to obtain prior to employment
  • Perform as an advanced practice nurse practitioner; use prescriptive authority, procedures and treatments, in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations and institutional guidelines
  • Provide direct outpatient care and serve as a resource for staff and physicians
  • Follow comprehensive plans that include intervention and treatment to attain expected outcomes
  • Identify expected outcomes derived from the assessment data and diagnoses and individualize expected outcomes with the patient specific populations and with the health care team when appropriate
  • Provide comprehensive clinical coordination of care and case management
  • Ability to work in an outpatient setting, as well as, train for inpatient services to include assisting surgeon with surgeries as directed
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Oncology Breast surgical experience preferred
  • Experience with Breast Cancer Survivorship program or oncology survivorship programs  
  • CRNFA experience a +
