Job Description Details:

Our Clinical Support teams ensure that success every day, and Mount Carmel ensures they have the resources and opportunities to succeed.  The Physician Assistant - Surgery, under the supervision of a physician, provides direct diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services to patients in the surgery unit.

Responsibilities   

  • Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination
  • Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures in preparation for surgery.
  • Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources. Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.
  • Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and care.
  • Provides advanced care to patients prior to, during and after surgery
  • Responsible for compliance with Organizational Integrity through raising questions and promptly reporting actual or potential wrongdoing.

Requirements/Qualification

  • Education: Successful completion of a Physician Assistant program that qualifies for certification status in Ohio. Bachelors degree required
  • Licensure / Certification: Current license, certification or registration in the State of Ohio.  National Certification Commission for Physician Assistant (NCCPA) certification. BLS certification required. ACLS certification may be required.
  • Experience: Previous clinical experience providing advanced care to surgery patients.  Prior First Assist experience with Ortho cases preferred.  Previous Emergency Department experience responding to consults with experience reducing fractures/manipulating fractures in preparation for surgery.
  • Effective Communication Skills.
  • Maintains a supervision agreement with the supervising physicians.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, self-directed and flexible.
