We are seeking a Principal Data Scientist for our Hopkins, MN location responsible for identifying sources of truth, data domains, and attributes to support current and new hypotheses. Understands data structures, assesses new data sources, and evaluates sourcing strategies using a robust, repeatable, automated framework. Performs data warehousing for historical analysis. Understands complex concepts and translates them into actionable sets of process modules and activities that are easily understandable by non-technical business users. Collaborates with end-users to evaluate business goals, identify needs, and propose solutions using the portfolio of technical assets including SAS Business Intelligence, SAS In-Memory, SAS In-Database Technologies, Hadoop, Teradata EDW, and other relational data stores. Leverages Big Data to perform data profiling, cleansing, and enhancements including identifying usable data fields and types, nominal data and measures, standardization of attributes, and handling of missing and null values. Transforms datasets for analytical research versus traditional reporting and optimizes the performance of large datasets for analytical speed and cost-effective storage. Focuses on design and architecture of datasets to avoid undesired duplication. Ensures repeatability of the process (automation) while also keeping it flexible for future changes. Proposes innovative ways to analyze and solve problems by using data mining approaches on the set of information available. Integrates insights into repeatable and reusable standard and ad-hoc reports as required by various lines of business. Ensures consistent formatting with an eye towards repeatability on an ongoing basis. Communicates discoveries to the business by exposing assumptions and validation work in an easily understandable way, and ensures consistency across lines of business.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
- Must have eight (8) years of related (progressive, post-baccalaureate) experience. Must have five (5) years of advanced analytics experience working with large-volume data, relational databases and schemas, and design applications. Must have two (2) years of development experience with data-driven applications. Employer will accept experience gained concurrently.
- Must also have 12 months demonstrated ability (which may have been gained concurrently) with each of the following: 1. Healthcare experience working with healthcare data; 2. Data analysis experience using big data; 3. SAS development and programming; and 4. Experience working with external customers. Qualified applicants are required to complete skills assessments as part of the interview process.
