Description

The Lead, IT Disaster Recovery person assists in development of risk management procedures, business continuance scenarios, contingency and disaster recovery plans for central and distributed systems and networks to maintain operations during downtime and/or major disasters. The Lead, IT Disaster Recovery person works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.

Responsibilities

The Lead, IT Disaster Recovery person develops and implements policies, procedures and plans for business continuance and disaster recovery, from a technology perspective. Requirement to work closely with various operational and support groups within IT and with outside groups like the Enterprise Resiliency Office and Enterprise Information Protection. Acceptable candidate to be involved in the evaluation and selection of vendors to ensure service level agreements meet business continuance and disaster recovery planning requirements. Advises executives to develop functional strategies (often segment specific) on matters of significance to the business and IT. Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, and works under minimal supervision, uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determines/recommends the best course of action.

Other Specific Expectations:

ITDR Application Support:

  • Participate in coordinating, assessing, improving & communicating recovery environment requirements associated with Application & Business Unit current, in plan & new activities, to appropriate IT management & technology groups, resulting in recommendations to enable timely, effective decisions regarding DR hardware & software recovery planning
  • Coordinate activities between the IT technology groups, IT applications development teams and business units, emphasizing regular, direct communication between all teams supporting ITDR alternate site maintenance, exercise & validation efforts
  • Serve as the liaison between IT Disaster Recovery and the Enterprise Risk Organization to ensure that plans exist which provide for manual/off-line procedure development designed, where possible, to mitigate risk associated with complete or partial failure of facilities, technology systems or applications related to an unforeseen disruption
  • Work with Application teams to ensure adequacy of all application based DR Plans/Activation Run books
  • Application knowledge & understanding to ensure proper planning for and implementation of a highly advanced disaster recovery alternate site capability and the corresponding DR program components
  • Coordinate & facilitate all business & application related DR planning & execution activities
  • Interact with the critical business units & application support groups for the purpose of planning, directing, controlling and maintaining adequacy of contingency planning efforts and testing

ITDR Technology Support:

  • Coordinating, assessing, improving & communicating recovery environment technology & infrastructure requirements associated with strategic & tactical technology current, in plan & new project activities, to appropriate IT management & technology groups, resulting in recommendations to enable timely, effective decisions regarding DR hardware & software recovery planning
  • Coordinate activities between required IT technology groups, working closely with the ITDR group associates, emphasizing regular, direct communication between all teams supporting DR alternate site maintenance, exercise & validation efforts
  • Coordination of technology resources supporting Humana DR alternate site upkeep, exercise & validation efforts
  • Assist the ITDR group to ensure adequacy of all technology based DR Plans (Activation Run books), designed to mitigate corporate risk associated with complete or partial failure of facilities, technology systems or applications related to an unforeseen disruption
  • Infrastructure knowledge & understanding to ensure proper planning for and implementation of a highly advanced disaster recovery alternate site capability and the corresponding ITDR program components
  • Experienced with the technologies and strategies employed by DR program
  • Extensive experience with and an understanding of enterprise data replication & automation technologies as well as DR network topology design and implementation
  • Coordinate & facilitate maintenance of the DR technology infrastructure by working closely with Humana IT & ITI teams

               

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of disaster recovery relevant technical experience
  • 5+ years of project leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or IT related field
  • Demonstrated leadership including the ability to grow and develop other people
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technology requirements
  • Strong project management skills including work-planning, estimating, meeting facilitation and issue resolution
