This is an exciting role in the growing OptumCare division within UnitedHealth Group. Our ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about working with data and driven to deliver creative and compelling solutions which turn data into actionable information for our business. The role will be responsible for analyzing, designing and developing innovative data visualization solutions which drive business insights. Tableau is our preferred platform but just as important is a solid foundation in data visualization best practices and techniques. This role will partner with business analysts and report customers to understand reporting/dashboard needs and with our data warehouse team for project delivery needs.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design and create data visualizations (reports and dashboards) which support user stories
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders of various levels to educate them on data visualization techniques in order to achieve better/faster insights
  • Work closely with business teams and project delivery team members to create compelling business intelligence content using Tableau Desktop and distribute via Tableau Server
  • Collaborate with the team to communicate business and data requirements and iteratively design visualizations for initial concepts and prototypes that can be presented to customers for feedback
  • Perform detailed data analysis and testing (i.e. determine the structure, content, and quality of the data through examination of source systems and data samples)
  • Troubleshoot data quality and logic/mapping issues affecting visualizations to determine root cause
  • Define, execute, analyze, and interpret complex/nested SQL queries
  • Establish standards and best practices for managing dashboards and related technologies (e.g. versioning, run books, quality controls)
  • Manage a repository of re-usable data visualization templates, views, style guides, and user-facing glossaries
  • Establish tools to improve transparency of underlying logic behind dashboard metrics and source data
  • Support activities to document, evolve, and communicate artifacts developed using Tableau and the data warehouse
  • Provide technical assistance and cross training to other team members
  • Resolve report issues submitted by business partners, end-users and delivery team

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree of Engineering or Finance
  • Solid understanding of data visualization best practices and techniques
  • 3+ years developing dashboard and reporting solutions with data visualization tools, including Tableau Desktop
  • 3+ years with data warehouses/marts supporting BI and reporting needs
  • Experience writing free-hand SQL queries
  • Experience with Tableau Server administration, specifically with project administration and managing workbooks for large teams
  • Experience in a large, matrixed team environment
  • Business Experience with IT partners, or IT Experience with Business Partners
  • Business Analysis experience
  • Experience developing within an Agile (i.e. Scrum or Kanban) framework
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Healthcare domain knowledge of Clinical Data Structures
  • Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial payer data
  • Experience with data governance processes
  • Familiarity with Salesforce.com data sources
  • Exposure to structured training techniques
