Senior Accountant - Schaumburg, IL

This team is responsible for all SG&A (Expense) Accounting functions related to the OptumRx (PBM) segment.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Maintain general ledger accounts and related activities for the production of financial statements and reports
  • Reconcile, analyze and review general ledger accounts in preparation for month end close
  • Prepare journal entries and reviews accounting classifications, in accordance with generally - accepted accounting principles
  • Analysis of OT/Optum and Corporate chargebacks.
  • Ownership and analysis of our FTE statistics.
  • Ownership of any required Peoplesoft chartfield/tree changes.
  • Responsible for coordinating and analyzing proper SGA expense accruals for designated workstreams and departments, including team building with Finance segment leaders.
  • Prepare documentation in support of external and internal audits
  • Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis and investigate issues providing explanations and interpretation
  • Performs work in a self - directed manner and works with less structured, more complex issues
  • Serve as a resource to others




Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent
  • 3+ years of professional accounting experience
  • Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and financial statements
  • Assesses and interprets customer needs and requirements
  • Identifies solutions to non - standard requests and problems
  • Solves moderately complex problems and / or conducts moderately complex analyses
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Excel, such as creating formulas, pivot table creation and excel use for analysis
  • General knowledge of Word and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with entering journal entries, running queries and general use of Peoplesoft or equal financial software tool
  • Familiarity with Blackline, or equal account reconciliation tool
