The Software Data Engineer will be a critical member of The Advisory Board’s Research division and will be deeply involved in the full life cycle of multiple applications and the supporting data architecture


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure high quality software solutions by implementing unit tests and supporting the creation and design of integration, load and user acceptance tests
  • Work with business teams to get clarification on business requirements and then implement solutions including code development and database design
  • Coordinate work with external teams to ensure a smooth development process
  • Support operations by identifying, researching and resolving performance and production issues
  • Provide thoughtful analysis and strong problem solving skills
  • Communicate with both business and technical teams orally and written

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of professional IT software development experience
  • 5+ years of Experience working in open source technologies
  • 3+ years of Experience in dealing with large data sets and data analysis
  • Development experience in Struts, JSF, or similar frameworks
  • 3+ years developing in a UNIX or Windows environment
  • Experience with data modeling, UML modeling tools and the use of design patterns
  • 2+ years experience in Scala, Python, R, Java or Perl programming languages (must be non-college level experience)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to switch context and provide expertise for multiple development teams across concurrent project tasks
  • Experience working within a team environment and the ability to work with internal and external clients and to translate requirements into solutions
  • Ability to provide technical expertise to more junior team members and consult with other application engineers to tune and performance test existing code base
  • Team experience with continuous integration environments including the use of industry standard source control tools
