H&R Block - Kansas City, Missouri

Posted: 11/11/2018

Come join a growing U.S. digital team as a Sr. Experience Designer. You and your team will drive the end-to-end user experience for H&R Block’s digital tax products, including mobile, online, and software channels. Stretch yourself and grow your skillset as you design for users across virtually every demographic.
H&R Block is looking for enthusiastic designers with proven backgrounds in crafting thoughtful, engaging experiences. If you are passionate about making complex things simple, walking the cutting edge of experience design, learning and growing your skills, using data to make decisions, and creating a culture of design, let’s talk.

  • Complex problem solving: Collaborate with your design team, product owners, researchers, developers, business analysts, and anyone else who can help elevate the taxpaying experience. Apply design methods to bring everyone together, arrive at a design to test, iterate, drive a user-centric solution that meets the business needs, and see it through to launch.
  • Inductive & deductive reasoning: Use data to understand what users are saying with their actions. Constantly look for opportunities, analyze findings from evaluations, and recommend changes to improve the user experience.
  • Creativity: Design storyboards, sketches, and prototypes of the user interaction model, workflow, information architecture, and user interface for new or modified features.
  • Emotional intelligence: Communicate your design to your leadership, product and dev partners, own it, and sell it. Be an advocate and educator of design. Work with the dev team, tax teams, and project managers to ensure implementation of the specific designs.
  • Critical thinking: Collaborate with your research partners to define test goals, participant requirements, and test plans, then review the test results.
  • Education: bachelor's degree in Human Factors or related field, or the equivalent through a combination of education and work experience.
  • Experience:
    • Five years’ experience releasing commercial web-based or end-user software products
    • Three years’ experience analyzing user data and conducting research and usability evaluations using industry best practices
    • A proven history of problem-solving through complex design and innovation
    • A portfolio showing your ability to analyze product functionality and propose usability enhancements in multiple channels and devices, including your ability to balance what are often times competing priorities between various product/business customers
    • Business liaison capabilities: effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, exceptional listening skills, ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization from senior executives to staff level, and strong presentation skills necessary to communicate and influence a wide range of audiences
    • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams: product, research, development, business analysts, quality assurance, customer service, and marketing
  • Understanding:
    • Software development (the process of specification, design, and implementation) and development concerns that arise in designing and building digital interfaces
    • Agile and iterative product development processes and methodology
    • Applied knowledge of web-based, software, app, and mobile patterns
    • Translating customer requirements into product specifications
    • Release schedules, tight deadlines, and competitive demands
