Senior Director, Actuarial Tool Modernization - New York, NY or Telecommute

Optum is seeking an expert in Actuarial tool building who can leverage their broad industry experience to lead teams in the development, maintenance, and execution of a variety of Actuarial models and consulting tools within Optum’s Payer Consulting Practice.  This role will be on the forefront of new industry trends and lead the Actuarial tool modernization of Actuarial products/services as well as other Optum healthcare offerings relevant to business needs.   This role requires the development and ownership of relationships internal and external constituents and both technical and professional leadership of Actuarial Managers and/or development staff in the delivery of best in class actuarial tools for our Optum Payer Clients.  This role requires a flair for technology and the ability to use your healthcare industry subject matter expertise to modernize tools and provide solutions to our Clients’ diverse needs while expanding our service offerings as we drive continued annual growth.  The role requires an ability to communicate effectively well with all levels of the healthcare organization, technical and non-technical staff, and an ability to develop strong Client relationships through credible industry knowledge, and relevant expert strategic advice.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Strategic and/or technical leadership on tool development and modernization
  • Lead teams to deliver quality results
  • Deliver expert consultation to internal staff and clients on matters related to trends in actuarial tools
  • Provide expert consultation to clients on various dimensions of health care data while leading staff to deliver quality solutions
  • Lead the design and development of  actuarial solutions (models and processes)
  • Assist the Payer Consulting team in driving business development goals and contribute to growth goals of the practice through the enhancement of diversified product offerings

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Information Technology, Healthcare Systems, or relevant discipline
  • 12+ years of healthcare experience
  • 10+ years of experience creating and/or modernizing actuarial tools and processes   
  • 5+ years of experience overseeing indirect project staff and/or direct reports; Leading with influence, motivation, and correction in a positive, constructive, and respectful way
  • Ability to think strategically and having proven experience laying out strategy and developing products and / or services from ground up that are sold to the payer market
  • Desire to actively be a part of a team responsible for developing and pursuing business opportunities both individually and as part of a team in support of the growth of the practice
  • Ability to travel in the range of 20% 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Actuarial Credential (ASA or FSA)
  • Previous consulting experience including but driving and meeting sales targets
