Senior Director - Global Materials Optimization- Telecommute US or Latin America

The Senior Director - Global Materials Optimization will report to the VP of Global Supply Chain at UnitedHealthcare Global (UHCG), and is an integral part of the materials management team.  This position has international responsibilities for leading and driving Six Sigma, LEAN and Continuous Improvement projects across UHCG’s supply chain operations.  Along with driving sustainable productivity improvements across all hospitals and ambulatory units, it will also provide support and counsel to underperforming hospitals by deploying to specific facilities with the intent of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to improve processes or management execution. This person will direct, plan, and manage supply chain projects to ensure that project goals are accomplished within prescribed time frames and budgets.  The individual must be a strong leader who can work effectively at all levels of the organization and in an international setting.

Primary Responsibilities
  •  Drive Six Sigma/Lean/Continuous Process Improvement projects with high return on investment, including data collection and root cause analysis to rapidly identify impactful supply chain opportunities within a clinical setting. Train local and global resources to perform similar work with high quality
  • Design and build strategies, processes and tools to address business opportunities to reduce waste and maximize business productivity and effectiveness
  • Lead cross-functional teams, share strategic foresight and facilitate sustainable, continuous process improvement strategies that delivers customer satisfaction and value to the organization
  • Act as a change leader, working with process owners and stakeholders to implement process changes.  Mediate conflict on project teams, as necessary
  • Develop tactical plans to achieves program goals; drive solutions to effective implementation and results
  • Actively participate in the continuous improvement community; sharing insights, challenges and opportunities to promote improved performance and problem-solving


Required Qualifications:
  • An undergraduate degree required, preferably in business, finance or supply chain management
  • 5+ years of experience in tracking, planning projects, working with large data sets and making data-driven analytical decisions
  • 5+ years of experience leading continuous improvement projects using DMAIC, DMADV, and/or Lean methodologies and training teams
  • Able to travel internationally 25-50% of the time
  • Demonstrated ability to influence with credibility across business functions or technologies with analysis
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral/presentation and written communication skills in both technical and non-technical language
  • Strong leadership, project and team building skills – ability to lead teams and drive projects and initiatives by working effectively with others with a demonstrated ability to work cross-departmentally
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver under tight timelines with minimal oversight and input
  • Fluent in English
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong collaborator – willingness to share ideas, documentation and best practices
  • Strong verbal, written, and listening skills
  • MMIS systems preferred
  • Lean and Six Sigma professional certifications
  • Experience in the healthcare industry and/or global supply chain experience
  • Fluent in Spanish and/or Portuguese
