The Senior Director, Global Mobility contributes to business performance by providing strategic oversight of the management of work assignments for UHG's growing mobile talent population. The Senior Director of Global Mobility has ownership of the Mobility team and significant input into the Mobility strategy globally. Additionally, this role will make recommendations into program design, implement approved programs and manage all domestic and international programs and processes, including immigration services. This role is tasked with ensuring that our programs are competitive and cost effective, aligned with best practice in the market, support our business and HR strategies, and are compliant with all related rules and regulations

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Global Mobility Strategy
  • Grow UHG’s Global Mobility strategy to one that is world-class, with long-term, configurable and scalable solutions
  • Continue to transform the Global Mobility service delivery model to match the scope and pace of company growth
  • Provide appropriate organizational visibility to the Global Mobility function and be able to articulate tangible ties to UHG business goals
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with the business to proactively identify and manage mobility assignments
  • Drive transparency around and consistent usage of Global Mobility policy
  • Drive consistent and scalable transactional processes for relocation, tax compliance, work authorization compliance and repatriation
  • Provide best in class experience
  • Providing advice, training and support to Human Capital Partners and Line Managers and staffing partners on all aspects of Mobility and Immigration
  • Enhance and expand Global Mobility stakeholder tools and resources to drive assignment success and positive stakeholder experience
  • Ensure Global Mobility strategy and processes allow assignees to remain laser-focused on their business goals throughout the full duration of their assignment
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders to continuously innovate mobility programs, processes, team capabilities and metrics, as well as developing creative solutions to meet immediate and long term business objectives
  • Responsible for tax and work authorization compliance
  • Overseeing and managing key relationships with vendors such as tax advisors, immigration attorneys, relocation providers, etc., ensuring that agreed service levels are attained or exceeded
  • Proposes innovative / creative solutions and policy exceptions as needed to successfully deploy talent across businesses and countries
  • Manage 2-3 direct reports with a full team totaling 8-10
  • Positions in this function are responsible for the strategic sourcing and recruitment alignment and execution to meet the needs of the enterprise
  • Provides leadership to and is accountable for the performance and direction through multiple layers of management and senior level professional staff
  • Work most often impacts a large business unit, or multiple markets / sites


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Legal, Business or related field or demonstrated equivalency (e.g., certifications)
  • 10+ years Global Mobility experience, including immigration
  • Knowledge of immigration policies and procedures pertaining to work permits, visas and permanent relocations
  • Knowledge of tax implications for International Assignment Programs & ability to interpret and explain to employees, Human Capital Partners, and managers
  • 5+ years managing a Global Mobility function, including leading a team with responsibility for direction of work and development of people
  • Experience working in a shared service delivery and strategic business partner model
  • Experience and comfort in working in a matrix environment, across multiple geographies
  • Interact with, influence and negotiate with key internal stakeholders and third-party vendors
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Global Mobility Specialist (GMS) designation
