The Senior GL Accountant will be engaged in calculating, posting, verifying, and recording financial data for use in maintaining accounting records, with special emphasis on the retail lease accounting. Also, involved in special project work and documentation/development of systems, policies and procedures. The Senior GL Accountant works closely with the Controller/Assistant Controller to help promote our organization, and add to the growth of the business.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform month end accounting including journal entry preparation and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts
  • Perform all lease related accounting, including set up and maintenance of operating and capital lease schedules, calculation of percent rent, recording CAM accruals, etc.
  • Work with Assistant Controller to implement and ensure compliance with new lease accounting standards
  • Identify and implement process improvements and make the necessary communications
  • Collaborate directly with the operations and IT teams to drive efficiencies when needed
  • Identifies and resolves problems and inconsistencies, determining appropriate corrective procedures
  • Prepare special financial analyses as requested by operations and/or finance management
  • Assist Controller/Assistant Controller with internal and external audits
  • Support the preparation of financial statements
  • Maintain accuracy in records, data entry, and related files/systems
  • Assist with sales tax filings when necessary
  • Assist with real and personal property tax filings when needed
  • Assist on projects and ad hoc assignments as needed

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • 3-6 years of accounting experience required
  • Must have experience with commercial/retail leases
  • Experience with Great Plains a plus
  • CPA or CPA Candidate a plus

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and concepts, with an emphasis on lease accounting principles
  • Advanced Excel skills that can be utilized to overcome obstacles and improve efficiency
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills
  • Self-motivated, excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize work
  • Ability to work well with a team, but able to manage work load independently
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels and departments
  • Ability to learn new software analytical tools
  • Experience with reporting

Physical Requirements

  • Able to sit for long periods of time
