Senior Manager, SEO

The successful Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Senior Manager will be responsible for development and execution of SEO strategies on branded websites. The manager will lead an in-house team of SEO Associates/content copywriters/IT developers to drive a cohesive and performance-focused SEO strategy.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty of the job outlined below, and to accept special projects as assigned.

Work closely across the organization to develop a SEO Strategy in the lens of SEO, PR, IT and UX. Pro-actively monitor all SEO related activities

Analyze web traffic continuously

Project management of new and existing SEO features

Develop and architect new SEO strategies

This position requires a combination of technical skills and marketing savvy to optimize natural search engine rankings

Scope:   Search engine optimization for Bed Bath & Beyond, buybuyBaby, Christmas Tree Shops, Harmon Face Values, Of A Kind and One Kings Lane.

Essential Responsibilities:         

  • Lead strategy and execution of a complex SEO campaign that focuses on developing new in-house SEO solutions to improve performance and drive revenue
  • Formulate a strategic plan to stitch PR, Social Media, content and UX in the lens of SEO Optimization
  • Lead the development and delivery of a proprietary SEO tools to target eComm-focused searches
  • SEO Manager will liaise with multiple stakeholders across the organization and with third party vendors in defining and executing relevant SEO plans, best practices and deliverables. Facilitate the editing and approvals process with the key teams (e.g., copywriters, legal, UX, PR, social media and IT). Work with the appropriate internal teams as well as other key stakeholders to ensure SEO elements are prioritized
  • Communicate the value and opportunity that exists within the various SEO initiatives to senior leadership
  • The SEO Manager will also be expected to know the “language of SEO,” e.g., organic search, PPC marketing, CTR, CPC, SEM, ROI, keyword density, long-tail keywords, Panda, Penguin, mobile and quality algorithm updates, etc
  • Self-Starter: As the position entails so many elements, the SEO Manager should be a self starter; someone who doesn’t require handholding. They should be able to assess a situation, develop a plan, get approval and run with it
  • Analytical Thinker: it’s imperative that that the successful candidate is very analytical and is a critical thinker. They should be able to readily identify problems and formulate practical solutions, and provide SEO recommendations based on data driven analysis
  • Understand how integration of blogs, expert content, subject matter experts, video and other content forms affect the outcome of a particular execution versus another approach and be able to defend recommendations with solid insights
  • Develop strategic link building strategies, including work in blogs and social networks
  • Provide SEO guidelines for copywriters, design and content team    

Education Requirements:

  • Minimum – A Bachelor's degree, with specific training / experience in related field
  • Preferred – A Master’s degree, with specific training / experience in related field

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years proven SEO experience in optimizing B2C websites for search engines
  • Strong understanding of technical SEO skills, including ability to evaluate and modify HTML and JavaScript for SEO purposes
  • Strong understanding of website architecture
  • Experience with keyword research and content optimization
  • Proven track record of successfully optimizing eCommerce sites for competitive head terms and long tail terms
  • Experience working with external agency partners
  • Strong understanding of SEO for responsive sites
  • Experience with Google Search Console and Bing webmaster tools
  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting

Other skills or certifications:

  • Proficient in MS Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience with web analytics (e.g., Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, etc.)
  • Experience with online competitive intelligence services (e.g., SEMRush, BrightEdge, MozSEO, comScore, Hitwise) a plus

Dimensions / Competencies:

  • Experience leading and launch in-house tools and solutions is a plus
  • Experience leading a team working across multiple disciplines and channels
  • Experience developing mobile SEO strategies and optimizing multimedia content for SEO is a plus
  • Understanding of natural search tactics and how web metrics are tracked
  • Understanding of web design and strong working knowledge of Javascript/HTML/AJAX as it pertains to SEO
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills; organized with ability to multi-task, prioritize, work quickly and to tight deadlines and to advocate/educate SEO to the wider organization
  • Experience with Single Page Applications is a plus
