The Solution Director is a vital component to our success and future growth as they will lead the research, design and development of solutions based on specific market needs.  This support is not limited to the procurement cycle of a given market, but the support may naturally increase in advance of this critical business event.  They will work with and across

multiple Solution Partners and markets while developing subject matter expertise in topical areas to grow and serve as a subject matter expert.

 

The Solution Director will partner with local market teams to plan for and execute the implementation of the solution.  This may include providing temporary, project based bandwidth to the local market.  

 

The Director will coordinate and direct the work of the Solution Associates who will support the efforts through project management, research, documentation, coordination with cross-functional teams and as needed meeting coordination and facilitation.  

 

The Director’s primary duties will be engaging internal and external stakeholders to develop programmatic strategies based upon comprehensive research to support the effective and compelling solutions, which will be incorporated as needed into responses to Requests for Proposal. The Director will use each of these core duties to achieve the adoption of new practices across C&S.

 

This leader will understand how to drive complex business processes throughout a matrix organization while articulating the execution of the strategies and tactics to effectively influence our programs and express them in response to state procurements. He/She is responsible for promoting high standards through development of policies, protocols, and practice guidelines that are both effective and compelling to state customers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Market Analysis & Competitive Positioning

    • Perform population and landscape analysis, synthesize and interpret information to drive understanding of population attributes.  This includes gathering, analyzing, validating applicable data/information from internal/external sources to understand population characteristics, needs and challenges.

  • Strategic Solution Development

    • Ensure incorporation of external market trends and best practices related to programmatic solutions from academic sources and competitors into C&S’ practices

    • Obtain and incorporate key facts related to C&S clinical interventions and/or other solutions in refinement of the programs as well as to support communications to external stakeholders

    • Help to create a seamless clinical member and provider experience through effective and comprehensive solution planning

    • Define and help to build the core competencies/capabilities that distinguish us in the marketplace (e.g., key differentiators)

    • Draft critical content development for complex clinical sections of C&S RFP responses, and oversee more junior members of the team in developing content

  • Relationship Development and Credibility

    • Support health plan leaders as needed in the development of value propositions for applicable audiences to drive planning and implementation (e.g., states, members, providers)

  • Operations Management

    • Leads and drives large scale initiatives, assists with program governance and manages interdependencies, estimates and allocates resources

    • Executes strategies and incorporates into effective, compelling responses to RFPs

    • Navigate and influence multiple cross-functional teams in a complex, matrix work environment

    • Partners with key operations and support teams and leaders to define program requirements and expected benefits; ensures associated service level agreements are met.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree

  • 5+ years health industry or consulting experience

  • Extensive experience conducting expansive research and developing high quality written work product synthesizing the results of that research

  • Negotiation, problem solving, planning and decision-making and facilitation skills to ensure process excellence throughout the solution development and implementation.

  • Excellent listening and communication skills; capable of effectively presenting ideas and articulating complex concepts and tactics; ability to quickly understand needs and act on those needs; ability to conceptualize and effectuate change management and "out-of-the-box" thinking

  • Strong sense of urgency and drive for results.  Ability to drive business initiatives to a decision and successful outcome, working across organizations and structuring approaches to new opportunities while aligning to common goals

  • Proven ability to build relationships cross-functionally and lead toward common goals Proven cross-functional influence and well-developed relationship building skills while leading toward common goals

  • Demonstrated success working effectively in a highly matrixed and ambiguous environment. Ability to effectively deal with ambiguity - can effectively cope with change, shift gears comfortably, can decide and act without having the total picture, comfortably handles risk and uncertainty in a manner consistent with UnitedHealth Group’s core values

  • Demonstrated leadership and motivator with the ability to mentor talent within the organization; able to provide work direction;

  • Ability to organize, manage and control multiple project concurrently and prioritize demands

  • Intermediate level of proficiency with PowerPoint and Excel 

     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree

  • Experience with Medicaid procurement process
