Position Summary

Ensure the accounting related to all Pharmacy Operations (In-Store, Warehouse, Specialty & Clinical), Wholesale Rx Merchandising & Managed Care is in-line with current GAAP guidance and Giant Eagle Policy. Provide accounting support to corporate retail operations, retail & corporate Rx management & Rx merchandising teams. Support, manage and develop Rx accounting team. Prepare accurate and timely financial information for management ensuring corporate requirements are met both weekly and monthly. Assist in the annual budget, audit and internal control testing.

Job Responsibilities

  • Review, analyze, interpret and prepare financial information in accordance to GAAP guidance and Giant Eagle Policy on a weekly & monthly basis to ensure accurate reporting of financial statements for all Pharmacy Operations (In-Store, Warehouse, Specialty & Clinical), Wholesale Rx Merchandising & Managed Care. Including sales, cost of goods, margin, shrink, income and expenses.
  • Analyze 3rd Party Sales interface with in-store POS data feed on a weekly basis. Perform comparison of sales, verify external interfaces, identify & research issues, & properly record entries to the general ledger. Review 3rd Party Trial Balance reporting for accuracy of adjustments following GAAP guidelines on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Perform all monthly closing processes for the Pharmacy business, including, Corporate Rx locations, Pharmacy Merchandising & Specialty Pharmacy administrative areas. Record necessary journal entries. Produce monthly financial summaries for Pharmacy Management.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of Wholesale Pharmacy & Managed Care rebates for multiple vendors, on a weekly and monthly basis, ensuring proper accounting according to GAAP guidelines. Communicate income summary to various levels of management, including Executive leaders.
  • Oversee the financial reporting for the Rx Quarterly Outdate program. Ensure proper recording to the general ledger of inventory entries and tracking of vendor receivables. Work closely with Pharmacy Merchandising team to resolve any process issues.
  • Review asset and liability accounts to ensure corporate financial requirements are met with Blackline software.
  • Provide accounting guidance & support to corporate retail operations, retail/corporate Rx management & Rx merchandising teams, operating as the liaison between Rx accounting and Merchandising/Operations.

  • Supervise, coordinate and oversee the development and performance of one team member.
  • Assist other team members in the department to ensure efficient operation of the department
  • Assist external audit team with the quarterly and annual audit.
  • Compile and update Pharmacy related accounting policies to ensure they are in-line with Giant Eagle policy and GAAP. Review pharmacy accounting processes on an ongoing basis identifying efficiencies

Education and Training Required

  • Bachelors Degree Accounting
