As a Sr. Business Architect you will be accountable for driving capability based planning activities to enable business-IT alignment. In this leadership by influence role, you will be expected to drive capability roadmap development and prioritization efforts. In this leadership by influence role, you will be expected to drive business capability roadmap development and prioritization efforts.


This is a high visibility role with considerable opportunity for driving innovation and providing leadership.  The ideal candidate is ready to roll up their sleeves, works well within a matrixed management structure, possesses a broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and an appreciation for strategy, processes and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance.  You will have exceptional communication skills and the demonstrable ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understanding business stakeholders, business strategy and business objectives

  • Leveraging business architecture tools to support business and IT execution against business priorities

  • Partnering with business to develop current state capability blueprints of the business (aligned with business strategy and objectives)

  • Developing capability health maps to understand the business capabilities that need most investment or change

  • Understanding contractual obligations and alignment to business capabilities

  • Understanding critical success factors (CSFs) for achieving business objectives

  • Understanding Key Performance Indicators(KPIs) for measuring progress against CSFs

  • Understanding current state of the business, the supporting technology and how it can be used to improve the business

  • Developing and managing capability domain roadmaps for migrating to desired  future state 

  • Engaging with stakeholders (at the executive level and below) to ensure alignment to business roadmaps and solutions

  • Assisting business and IT leaders in creating the right programs and projects (aligned with achieving desired target states)

  • Understanding  program and project scope to align with business objectives and roadmaps

  • Shaping solutions to ensure that they address core business opportunities and problems

  • Supporting roadmap implementation and change governance 

  • Ensuring that projects are moving the business towards the desired future state

  • Coaching business resources through the technology project process (e.g. how to write BVDs, review and give feedback on BVDs, how to open SPRFs, Attending Feasibility meetings to support business, etc.)

  • Continuously evolving the business roadmap to maintain alignment with business strategy and objectives as well as the technology landscape

  • Ability to travel at least 25% nationwide

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of overall technology and business experience

  • 5+ years in the business process analysis / engineering, planning and improvement domain

  • 5+ years of experience with a broad, UHG enterprise-wide exposure to the business and  strategy, processes and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance 

  • 3+ years of experience mentoring others and negotiating with technology professionals

  • Proven ability to recognize structural issues within the organization, functional interdependencies and cross-silo redundancies (which may exist in role alignment, process gaps and overlaps, and / or business capability maturity gaps)

  • Ability to present complex concepts to audiences who are not familiar with concepts

  • Prior experience in related disciplines such as business analysis, solution or enterprise architecture and / or data modeling


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Consulting experience at the intersection of Business and IT Strategy

  • Health care industry experience
