Sr. Financial Analyst - Hartford, CT or Minnetonka, MN

This position will have end to end financial responsibility for SG&A expenses in the UHC Operations, specifically within the Enterprise Performance Operations.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • This position will have end to end financial responsibility for SG&A expenses in the UHC Operations, specifically within the Enterprise Performance Operations

  • Manages all aspects of financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting for SG&A Expenses & FTE’s,  with special focus on Print & Postage Expenses in the Enterprise Performance Operations.

  • Oversees the Month End Close process, including Journal Entry preparation, preparing pre-close preliminary estimates, & post close variance analysis     

  • Develops & monitors metrics & drivers of expense, especially as it relates to Fixed vs Variable Costs Analysis. Prepares trend & variance analysis to drive business decision & cost efficiencies.

  • Creates and updates financial models for SG&A Expenses, with emphasis on Print & Postage Expenses. Includes Cost per Member, Cost per Claim, and Cost per Unit trend & variance analysis         

  • Develops & Updates Quarterly Cost Benefit Analysis for both Capital and Business Investments, with special focus on all initiatives impacting Print & Postage, including retrospective analysis

  • Works closely with business partners to develop & recommend strategies to ensure alignment with Cost Challenges, Business Plans, CBA’s, & Financial Targets

  • Monitors cost allocations of SG&A expenses across business segments and adjusts intersegment agreements & chargebacks accordingly

  • Develops and maintains financial reports to clearly communicate actual results vs forecasted, year-over-year, and forecast over forecast performance; in total, by division, & by segment

  • Partners with capacity planning team to ensure FTE forecasts and results are with in established targets. Monitor variance, vacancy, & overtime trends

  • Responsible for managing the work of one Offshore resource (not a direct report)

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree - preference in Finance or Accounting

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in a finance and/or accounting or related field

  • Budgeting and forecasting experience

  • Financial modeling experience

  • Ability to communicate with all levels within the organization including business partners’ management team & staff, and finance leadership & peers 

  • Understanding of metrics & drivers of expenses (prefer experience related to Fixed vs Variable Costs, Rate vs Volume Analysis, Unit Cost Analysis, and PMPM Costs)

  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Excel and PowerPoint including data management, pivot tables, data lookups and working with macros

  • Large budgeting system and large G/L system experience

  • Ability to lead special projects working collaboratively across the organization with business, capacity planning, & finance partners.   

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Capital Investments, Cost Benefit Analysis, & Cost Accounting specifically unit cost/ rate  vs. volume analysis

  • Experience related to Fixed vs Variable Costs, Rate vs Volume Analysis, Unit Cost Analysis, and PMPM Costs)

  • Hyperion Essbase, Smart View,  and PeopleSoft (GL, AP, Inquiry) experience

  • Preferred prior experience with Print & Postage Expenses for Transactional and/or Fulfillment Materials
